Wings Of A Dove
The Blues Busters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, for the wings, for the wings of a dove,
Far away, far away would I rove!
Oh, for the wings, for the wings of a dove,
Far away, far away, far away, far away would I rove!

In the wilderness build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest
In the wilderness build me, build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest

In the wilderness build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest

And remain there forever at rest
And remain there forever at rest

Oh, for the wings, for the wings of a dove,
Far away, far away would I rove!
Oh, for the wings, for the wings of a dove,
Far away, far away, far away, far away would I rove!

In the wilderness build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest
In the wilderness build me, build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest

In the wilderness build me a nest,
And remain there forever at rest

Forever at rest
Forever at rest

And remain there forever at rest
And remain there forever at rest

[Chorus]
If I had the wings of a dove
If I had the wings of a dove

Well, I would fly, fly away, fly away
And be at rest

[Verse]
Oh, since I have no wings
Since I have no wings
Since I have no wings
I'm gonna fly, fly, fly
Since I have no wings
Since I have no wings

We Jamaicans truly are a remarkable people taking words from the Bible and making hits with them quite often. "If I had the wings like a dove, I would fly away and be at rest" - taken from Psalm 55:6 when King David was running for his life from King Saul.

I remember singing this in the second grade for music hour. Music teacher had us singing this every music hour. Didn't know it was a ragae song. Thought it was a song she created for some odd reason. My second grade self would say, "if i had the wings of a duck" " i would fly, fly away, flyyyyy awayyyyy and beeeee the best" lol
