Mongrel Too
The Bob Seger System Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here come the mountain, Here come the hill
Here come the valley and the Shoreline still
I know 'em well, know well
Mongrel, on the hard sell
With a ?, hot assed, inkwell
Lord, But I, I can't leave with the blues
Through endless days, and endless nights
Spare my creator, scream for my rights
? in the wishing well
Mongrel on the Hard sell, with a ?,
Hot assed, Inkwell
But I won't leave you with the blues no
Come down to ? (Wah-doo-day)
I'll buy you out
Gonna make you shake it Lord gonna make you shout
Gonna burn you gonna make you swell
Mongrel on a hard sell
with a ? hot assed inkwell Lord

But I can't leave you with the blues no
No no

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Mongrel Too" by The Bob Seger System speak of the hardships of life, especially for those living in the rougher areas of society. The opening lines, "Here come the mountain, here come the hill, here come the valley and the shoreline still" suggests that life is unpredictable and there are obstacles that one will inevitably face. The lyrics seem to focus on the plight of those marginalized in society, referred to as "mongrel" throughout the song. Despite the harsh conditions they face, the singer refuses to leave them with the blues, suggesting that they will find a way to rise above their struggles.

The song provides a stark portrayal of a cruel world, with the lyrics describing the hardships of daily life. The phrase "Mongrel on the hard sell" seems to reference the challenges of trying to survive in a difficult environment. The "hot assed, inkwell" in the song may reference the struggles of working long hours in tough jobs just to make ends meet. The lyrics also suggest a sense of desperation, with the singer "screaming for their rights" and seeking some semblance of justice.

For a variety of reasons I think I love the System albums as well or even more than his later commercially successful albums. And I still listen to them after all these years, especially his first which I consider a minor masterpiece! Thanks for uploading!

Bob's Best 100% pure Detroit power like The MC5. Bob actually played guitar back then good & hard with one hell of a band.

My go to channel for when I don't want to think about what I want to listen to or just want to be outright surprised. Found a lot of great stuff here that I'd otherwise be poorer in my soul for without it........ Very much like the old blogspots that used to upload tons of hidden gems like Head Over Heels, Stray Dog etc. I could easily listen to music from 67-75 and never get bored or hear it all!!
