They were formed in Wallasey, England in 1988, with singer/guitarist Sice aka Simon Rowebottom, guitarist/songwriter Martin Carr, bassist Timothy Brown and original drummer Steve Hewitt. Hewitt was replaced by Rob Cieka following their first release, the extremely rare Ichabod and I.
In 1992, the band released Everything's Alright Forever but it was 1993's Giant Steps that finally brought the band to a mass audience, in the UK at least. They were on the illustrious Creation Records label with other British greats like the Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, and My Bloody Valentine.
The Boos never were quite able to break in the US, even with the poppier 1995 Wake Up!. The album brought critical acclaim to the band, but was not promoted by their US domestic label, Columbia, and the band was subsequently dropped. During this time, Sice put out a solo album, First Fruits under the name Eggman. 1996 also saw the Boo Radleys bring about another change, the heavier C'mon Kids. The band split in 1999, just months after the release of Kingsize.
Martin Carr went on to form Brave Captain, putting out several albums. Despite a pledge to never play again, Sice formed a new band, Paperlung, in 2005.

The Boo Radleys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Throw out your arms for a new sound
Pretty face it don't mean a thing
If you look so same as your crowd
Work all day it don't mean a thing
With the sun always outside your window
Fuck the ones who tell you that life
Look for the box and find what's inside
You'll never find it till you have done
And fuck the ones who tell you that life
Is merely a time before dying
I know it's hard to do
But have we ever let you down
See'mon kids
The lyrics to The Boo Radleys's song "C'Mon Kids" are a call to young people to embrace their individuality and reject the pressure to conform to societal norms. The chorus encourages listeners to "See'mon kids don't do yourself down," urging them to throw out their arms for a new sound and reject the sameness of their crowd. The message is clear: don't be afraid to be different, to pursue your passions and dreams, and to define your own path in life.
The verses of the song continue this theme, with references to the futility of working all day if it doesn't bring you fulfillment or joy. The line "Fuck the ones who tell you that life is merely a time before dying" is a bold rejection of the idea that life is only a brief interlude before we inevitably pass away. Instead, the song urges listeners to look for the box and find what's inside, to discover their own passions and purposes and live life on their own terms.
As a whole, "C'Mon Kids" is a powerful anthem for young people who are struggling to find their place in the world. It encourages listeners to take risks and follow their hearts, and to reject the pressures to conform and fit in. It's a reminder that life is more than just a grind or a means to an end - it's a precious opportunity to create something meaningful and impactful.
