Because He Lives
The Booth Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

God sent his son, they called him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my savior lives

Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because i know he holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives

How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy he gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain day because he lives

Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because i know he holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives

And then one day I'll cross the river
I'll fight life's final war with pain
And then, as death gives way to vict'ry
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know he reigns

Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because i know he holds the future

And life is worth the living
Just because he lives

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Booth Brothers’ β€œBecause He Lives” refer to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the reassurance and peace that this brings to believers. The opening lines state that God sent his son, Jesus, who came to earth to show love, provide healing, and extend forgiveness to humanity. Through his death, he purchased the redemption and forgiveness of all who would believe and follow him. The empty grave is cited as evidence that he did not remain dead, but rather rose from the dead and is alive, thus giving believers hope and assurance for their own lives both now and in the future.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase β€œBecause he lives,” emphasizing the impact that the resurrection of Jesus has on the present and the future. Believers can face tomorrow with confidence because of the reality of the living Christ. Fear is overcome, and the future is full of purpose and meaning. There is a calming and peaceful assurance that the future is secure, held in the hands of the one who conquered death.

The third verse of the song speaks to the joys of life, particularly the joy of holding a new baby. The assurance that because Jesus lives, even this precious child can face an uncertain future with hope and confidence. The final verse looks ahead to the end of life and the final struggle with death. But even in the face of death, there is hope and victory because of the ultimate triumph accomplished through Jesus’ own death and resurrection. Life is worth living simply because of the assurance that it is all leading towards ultimate victory and glory.

When the Booth Brothers Β sing, God listens.

Michael is so multi-talented. He not only sings beautifully, preachs an inspired lesson, he can also lead singing. Neither he nor Ronnie can be still. If you bound their hands & feet, they couldn't sing or talk. Love the joy they bring. Paul is loosing up more all the time & looking more comfortable. Jim would have been a hard act to follow.
