It hurts so bad, cause when I see you, I start crying,
I've tried everything to stop, but there's no denying,
That falling in love with you, girl, is just like dying.
Oh, don't walk away,
How, how can I make you stay?
Don't turn away,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through.
Girl, don't you know we could work it out with talking?
You won't look around or slow down your walking,
I've given you everything with kiss to seal it,
You had to get your kicks out of trying to steal it.
Now, I'm standing here,
Strange, strange voices in my ears,
I feel the tears,
But, all I can hear are those words that never were true,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through, ahh.
Now, I'm standing here,
Strange, strange voices in my ears,
I feel the tears,
But, all I can hear are those words that never were true,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through.
Words that never were true,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through.
Words that never were true,
Just spoken to help nobody but you,
Words with lies inside,
But, small enough to hide till your playing was through.
The Boston Tea Party's song "Words" talks about a person who is deeply in love with someone, but the other person is not reciprocating the feelings. The singer mentions how every time he sees the person he loves, he feels hurt, and it makes him cry. He goes on to say that he has tried to stop loving the person, but he can't help it because falling in love with them is like dying. In the second verse, he tries to reason with the person, asking her to work things out by talking it out. However, she is not interested in working things out and instead tries to steal everything he has given her. The song ends on a melancholic note, as the singer is left with nothing but the painful words that were spoken to help nobody but the other person.
The song makes use of metaphors to explain how the singer feels. He compares falling in love to dying, and this conveys how deeply he loves the other person. The line, "Words with lies inside, but small enough to hide till your playing was through," indicates how the other person was leading the singer on by saying things that were not true. The singer mentions how he can hear strange voices in his ears, and this highlights how heartbroken he is.

That's so great. He might remember my father that briefly managed them. They played live at my 8th grade graduation party. They were so talented.

What a great find. My dad managed them briefly when I was young. They played in person at my 8th grade graduation party. They sang this. And, did a concert. It was so great.

Tabitha, I had their first album...I was 13 and got it for Christmas or a birthday... wore it out playing it every other day...The one with this album cover.. this cover of the Monkees hit, "Words" , must have been released as a single, and I know it wasn't on their album....

So happy you loved it! Just saw your comment now. Yeah, the Boyce/Hart song. My nanny was dating Davy Jones at the time. Those were fun times and great music. Some of the best songwriters too. Again Thank You for your comment and love of music!☮☀️💗
