Boogie Woogie Downtown
The Bouncing Souls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How did it come to this?
Where did it all go wrong?
Nothing seems to be what it used to be,
And no one's happy

I lie awake at night
This feeling just ain't right
These words go round and round and round in my head
Like a broken record

If this goes on much longer,
I think I'm gonna explode

'Cause I don't wanna wait 'til tomorrow
I wanna have it out right now
Because if this thing is over,
What's the point to drag it out?
Let's put it in the ground

This takes up all my time
I need to clear my mind
We don't see things eye to eye anymore
And it's just kinda beat

This is a tragedy
Like watching bad TV
This show plays on and on and on in my head
I can't change the channel

If this goes on much longer,
I think I'm gonna explode

'Cause I don't wanna wait 'til tomorrow
I wanna have it out right now
Because if this thing is over,
What's the point to drag it out?
Let's put it in the ground

Stop dragging it around
It's bringing me down
Well you won't leave it down

If this goes on much longer,
I think I'm gonna explode

'Cause I don't wanna wait 'til tomorrow
I wanna have it out right now
Because if this thing is over,
What's the point to drag it out?

What's the point to drag it out?
Let's put it in the ground

Overall Meaning

The Bouncing Souls’ song “Boogie Woogie Downtown” is an introspective and self-reflective piece that tackles the lingering uncertainty and dissatisfaction that plague the mind of the singer in the song. The lyrics convey a sense of saturation and mundanity that seem to have engulfed every aspect of his life. The opening lines of the song, “How did it come to this? Where did it all go wrong? Nothing seems to be what it used to be, and no one's happy,” express the despair and gloom that the singer is going through. He is feeling dejected and lost as he contemplates how things could have diverged so much from the way they used to be.

The song's central idea is the struggle to overcome this feeling of being stuck in a rut and the need to put an end to it. The singer is tired of the constant strife and frustration, which echoes in the lines, “If this goes on much longer, I think I'm gonna explode.” He acknowledges his need to confront the issue head-on and not let things drag on, “Because if this thing is over, what's the point to drag it out? Let's put it in the ground."

Overall, the song is about the constant battle that people face when trying to break free from the monotony of their daily routine and to seek a sense of fulfillment and purpose. It highlights the importance of taking charge of your life and making the necessary changes to overcome the sense of malaise that can set in.
