Ouverture
The Box Lyrics

Ce pays que traverse la Seine
Que j'aperçois depuis mes fenêtres
Dans l'air bleu des belles matinées
Cette Seine peuplée de bateaux
Qui naviguent de Rouen au Havre
Et défilent devant ma maison
Apparut un convoi de navires
Parmi eux un trois-mâts brésilien
Que je me surpris à saluer
Tant il me faisait plaisir à voir
The Box's song Ouverture begins with the lyrics "J'aime ce pays où j'ai grandi. Ce pays que traverse la Seine. Que j'aperçois depuis mes fenêtres. Dans l'air bleu des belles matinées." These opening lines suggest that the singer has a great love for their homeland, where they have grown up. They mention the river Seine, which runs through their country and can be seen from their windows on beautiful mornings. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer expressing a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the beauty of their surroundings.
The lyrics go on to describe the Seine as being populated by boats, which travel from Rouen to Le Havre. The singer observes these boats as they pass by their house, enjoying the sight of them on another beautiful day. The final verse introduces a new element, with the appearance of a convoy of ships, including a Brazilian three-mast. The singer is so pleased by the sight of this ship that they instinctively salute it. This moment seems to evoke a sense of wonder and delight for the singer, highlighting the power of unexpected and joyful experiences to connect us to the world around us.
Overall, The Box's Ouverture is a reflective and poetic song that celebrates the beauty of everyday life and the power of small moments of joy. The imagery of the Seine and the boats that traverse it create a vivid sense of place, and the appearance of the three-mast ship brings a new element of excitement and wonder to the song. At its core, Ouverture is a tribute to the simple, yet profound experiences that make life meaningful.
