Safari
The Breeders Lyrics

In over his knees
He couldn't leave a finer life
Always hugging the ground
And crying out for me
He didn't cry on a safari
In over his knees
He couldn't leave the flock, he couldn't leave
And crying out for me
The Breeders' song "Safari" is a cryptic and abstract chronicle of a man's emotional journey, one that he experiences silently and stoically. The lyrics suggest that this person has gone on a safari, which would seem like an adventurous and thrilling experience, but instead he is "over his knees" and "always hugging the ground." This could be interpreted as a metaphor for this man being bogged down by life's challenges, weighed down by depression or anxiety, or perhaps even feeling humbled by the grandeur of nature. Despite his struggle, he is determined to persevere and remain devoted to the things and people he cares about, as evidenced by him crying out for the singer.

I could just sit and listen to ahh and ooh the whole album. The actual lyrics are a bonus with that ethereal, unreal, incredible voice she has. The sound of her voice embodies and brings me back to that time. It's simply amazing.

Yep I feel very similar to her "tra la la's" on Little Trouble Girl with Sonic Youth. I never wanted the song to end because of that.
