In 2004, the Briefs went on European tour without Lance Romance, who had stayed behind to get his GED. They took in his place bassist Steve Kicks of Vancouver's New Town Animals. Lance rejoined the line-up for the 2004 release party of Sex Objects, however retired from the band in 2005. Kicks has since become a permanent addition and was a full member for the follow up Steal Yer Heart.
Lyrically the Briefs have carried on many themes prevalent in `77 era punk rock. The Sex Objects single "Orange Alert" gained notoriety as a seething criticism of the Bush administration and the of the culture of fear in post-9/11 America. It is one of a number of songs critical of the U.S. Government, including "No More Presidents" and "Destroy The USA" from Sex Objects, and "We Americans" from Off the Charts. The band has written a number of love songs a consciously off kilter style similar to the Buzzcocks' "Orgasm Addict." Through songs like "Dolly Parton" the band has also shown a penchant for light-hearted absurdity.
The Briefs are currently on hiatus while Chris is in Germany and Daniel continues his quest towards becoming the world's littlest astronaut, training at a secret location underground, possibly in California. Nix and Kicks are both in a new band called Steve E. Nix and The Cute Lepers. They play a very similar style of music as The Briefs with some added power pop drive. They have released a 7" single for the songs "Terminal Boredom" backed with "Prove It" on 1-2-3-4 Go! Records. Two more singles are due on the europeon labels NFT and Drunk'n'Roll records.
Move Too Slow

She sleeps in an aquarium, she moves too slow
Valium, buds, and alcohol
My girl likes to take them all
She's always moving way too slow
Take her out so we could dance, she moves too slow
She left in the ambulance, she moves too slow
My girl, she hallucinates
She's always moving way too slow
She always speaks in monotone
Talks to the wall when she's alone (hello, hello, hello)
She loses things, she says oh well
When she's awake she just can't tell (at all, at all)
Just last night she lost control, she moves too slow
Now she lives at the hospital, she moves too slow
Valium, buds, and alcohol
My girl likes to take them all
The whole world's moving way too slow
She says the whole world's moving way too slow
And she don't know where she wants to go
The whole world's moving way too slow
Moves too slow
The Briefs's song Move Too Slow is a cautionary tale about a girl who indulges in drugs and alcohol, causing her to move at a slower pace. The lyrics suggest that the girl takes pills and sleeps excessively in an aquarium, indicating a state of numbness and dissociation. The singer's girlfriend takes Valium, buds, and alcohol, which makes her move too slow, causing her to miss out on opportunities and experiences such as dancing. The drugs and alcohol are not only impairing her physically but also mentally as she hallucinates and speaks in monotone when she is not alone. Throughout the song, the singer expresses concern about his girlfriend's drug and alcohol use, as she is deteriorating in both mind and body. The girl then loses control, leading to her hospitalization, a poignant illustration of the dangers of substance abuse. The song's chorus emphasizes that not only is the girl moving too slowly, but the whole world seems to be at a standstill; she doesn't know where to go, indicating a state of confusion and loss.
