White Guilt
The Bronx Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

L.A. lady you always look so uninspired
When you're hanging around
Living with creeps and loving with liars
And everybody knows it's true
That all you're ever gonna be is entertainment
So entertain me

You shiver when they wake up
And once more before they're gone
And even when you're sleeping baby
You're barely holding on

L.A. lady I know your feet must be so tired
From standing on a corner stomping out cigarettes like they were fires
The daughter of a thousand men
You've got your mothers eyes and whorish skin
You're a train wreck
But that's entertainment

[Chorus:]
You shiver when they wake up
And once more before they're gone
And even when you're sleeping baby you're barely holding on
So throw your skin back in your clothes
And wipe the blood running from your nose
'cause if the price is right tonight anything goes
Too many lines, one too many times
You're sharing the same vein
With your stage name
But it never quite feels the same
It never quite feels the same
I said, it never quite feels the same

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "White Guilt" by The Bronx is a commentary on the hollow nature of the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, specifically the music and film industry. The song is addressed to an L.A. lady who is unfulfilled and lives a life devoid of real purpose, surrounded by shallow people who love and deceive her. She is a victim of the industry, used for her entertainment value, and forced to conform to its whims to survive. The lyrics describe her as a "train wreck," with "whorish skin" and a "daughter of a thousand men," suggesting that she is a sex worker or has been exploited by the industry in some way. The chorus of the song expresses her struggle to hold on to her identity and dignity, even as she is consumed by the industry and forced to compromise her values for the sake of her career.

The song signifies the band's deep sense of unease at the commodification of the music industry, where the human component is often lost sight of as the emphasis is placed more on the entertainment value that it can provide. The song is a melancholic portrayal of L.A.'s exploitative entertainment industry and an attempt to expose what happens behind the scenes. The band uses sharp, biting lyrics and a fast-paced, anxious melody to underscore the central themes of the song.

@w00x360

I saw them live as The Bronx and as Mariachi El Bronx in the same day at a festival in Leeds last year. Their performance as The Bronx was on eof the best gigs i've ever been to.
So I assume that they're still going as both.
