The group was formed by record producer / composer, Tony Hiller, and originally featured the well-travelled vocalist, Tony Burrows. In 1970 they had a hit single with "United We Stand", which not only was a heavily played record on British radio, but also broke the American market. By the time they broke the voting record for Eurovision and sold well over one million copies of "Save Your Kisses For Me", the line up had totally changed. After Eurovision, they had a number of hits in the UK, including two more chart-toppers, but long term success proved to be elusive.
In 1992, Sandra Stevens told Eurovision Network's magazine that Brotherhood of Man had been shortlisted to sing in A Song for Europe 1983. However she said that the group changed its mind, preferring to be remembered for winning the Eurovision Song Contest as opposed to possibly losing a UK qualifying heat. However their song, "When the Kissing Stops" remained in the contest and was performed by another group, Rubic. It came sixth.
"Save Your Kisses For Me" was nominated as one of the final five finalists in the 50th anniversary Eurovision concert held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in October 2005 and was the highest placed UK song.

The Brotherhood of Man Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Into the coming night
A guiding light appears
To lead me home
My days are spent with
Thoughts of loving you
(Gonna reach out)
(Gonna reach out)
What else can I do
Tell me, girl
Reach out your hand
To the one you love
Reach out your hand
To the one you love
And the one you love
Is always at close
To hold you day and night
And be your guiding light
If all your worries
Aeem to get you down
(Reach out, reach out
You gotta reach out)
Don't wear a frown
Don't you worry bout a thing
(Reach out, reach out
You gotta reach out)
When troubles come
I'm there to comfort you
(Gonna reach out)
To take care of you
(If you reach out)
I'll be your everything
Come on, reach out your hand
To the one you love
Reach out your hand
To the one you love
And the one you love
Is always at close
To hold you day and night
And make the darkness bright
Can you tell me why
This one particular guy
Has got a hold on me
To guide my destiny
Reach out your hand
To the one you love
Reach out your hand
To the one you love
Reach out your hand
To the one you love........
The lyrics of "Reach Out Your Hand" by The Brotherhood of Man suggest a message of love, comfort, and support for those who are feeling lost and alone. The song highlights the idea that in times of trouble, reaching out to those we love can provide us with the guidance and reassurance necessary to make it through difficult moments.
The opening lines of the song set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, describing a gentle sway and a guiding light that appears to lead the singer home. The lyrics go on to describe the singer's unfaltering love for someone and the importance of reaching out to that person for comfort and support when times get tough. The repeated line "reach out your hand" suggests a call to action for the listener, urging them to connect with the people they care about for help and guidance.
In the chorus, the lyrics suggest that the person we love is always near and ready to hold us, day or night, and to "make the darkness bright." The song's themes of love and support are further emphasized in the bridge, where the singer describes a feeling of being guided by a particular person who seems to control his/her destiny. Overall, "Reach Out Your Hand" is a beautiful song that encourages us to connect with the people we love and to rely on them for strength and support when we are feeling lost or alone.

Hard to believe that this cheesy group was responsible for such a blistering track. Fabulous stuff, sounds like the 5th Dimension at its best.
Too bad, their later output never matched this song.

BHOM at their funkiest! I don't really remember this, but it reminds me a bit of "Hey Big Brother" by Rare Earth.
