Good Love
The Brothers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Long blonde hair, sky-blue eyes
Yeah, that well-bred look is easy to recognize
A tailored dress, a fit so fine
And it adds up to the question on my mind

[Chorus:]

Honey, do you love as good as you look
Can you satisfy your man like your body says you can
Judging from the cover, I'd love to read the book
Honey, do you love as good as you look

If you could read my mind, you might blush blood-red
But then again, you might come over here instead
I see they brought your check and soon you're bound to go
If I don't make my move right now, I may never know

Judging from the cover, I'd love to read the book

Honey, do you love as good as you look
Honey, do you love as good as you look

Overall Meaning

The Brother's song "Good Love" is a classic rock and roll song that has stood the test of time due to its catchy melody and lyrics that tap into a universal human experience. The song is about a man who is captivated by a beautiful woman with a "well-bred look" and is curious about whether or not she is as good in bed as she looks. He describes her physical features in detail, including her long blonde hair, sky-blue eyes, and tailored dress that fits her body perfectly. The chorus of the song repeats the question that is on the man's mind: "Honey, do you love as good as you look?"

What makes this song interesting is the way it uses vivid imagery and wordplay to convey its message. The lyrics play with the idea of judging a book by its cover, using it as a metaphor for the man's attraction to the woman. He is drawn to her physical appearance, but he also wonders if there is more to her than meets the eye. The line "If you could read my mind, you might blush blood-red" suggests that the man is harboring some sexually charged thoughts about the woman, but he is also uncertain if she feels the same way. The song is a playful and flirty exploration of attraction, desire, and the thrill of the chase.

Very nicely said Jerry. So Sad is my favourite Everly song.
When Phil died in 2014 Paul McCartney wrote this in Facebook:

“Phil was one of my great heroes.

“With his brother Don, they were one of the major influences on The Beatles. When John and I first first started to write songs, I was Phil and he was Don.

“Years later, when I finally met Phil, I was completely star-struck and at the same time extremely impressed by his humility and gentleness of soul.

“I will always love him for giving me some of the sweetest musical memories of my life.”
I hope Paul writes something about Don as well.

Lyrics
We used to have good times together
But now I feel them slip away
It makes me cry to see love die
So sad to watch good love go bad
Remember how you used to feel, dear?
You said nothing could change your mind
It breaks my heart to see us part
So sad to watch good love go bad
Is it any wonder
That I feel so blue
When I know for certain
That I'm losing you
Remember how you used to feel, dear?
You said nothing could change your mind
It breaks my heart to see us part
So sad to watch good love go bad
So sad to watch good love go bad

The greatest harmonies ever there will never be another pair like them was lucky enough to see them in Birmingham a few years ago takes me back to when they came on the scene. Without doubt we had the greatest musical talent from the 50s

I was so fortunate to see the Everly Brothers live in concert in the late 70's. Such a memorable night. They'll never make music like that ever again.

I grew up with these fellows on the turntable, earned money to buy their records and spent it the same day...memories are still fresh and I remember how I felt the first time I heard this one. Great Don Everly composition....please bring this music back and let it thrive.

I first heard this beautiful song in 1960 when I was 15. It's even more hauntingly beautiful today. I've loved Don & Phil's music since the summer of 1957, when Bye Bye Love first came out. There will NEVER be anyone better than the Everly Brothers.

@Ron Abernethy yep, me a year younger, As raw Rock n Roll was fading, beautiful harmony's like this from the Brother's, lead the way, into the early 60's, pre Beatles.
