The Bush's song "The Afterlife" seems to be about surrendering oneself to the unknown after death. The opening lines reveal a woman who "got the antidote" and knows "the other way" which can be interpreted as someone who has found a way to deal with the inevitable end of life. The singer, however, is on the other side, stranded and unable to express himself, a sense of helplessness which is mirrored in the recurring plea to "let it go."
The chorus is a continuation of the idea of surrender, as the singer gives himself away when he has said all that he can say, surrendering to the wind and, by extension, to the afterlife. The bridge acknowledges the worries and fears that come with death, as well as the knowledge of past mistakes and attempts to fix them, but ultimately ends with the idea that love is sinking fast within, a statement which can be read either hopefully or despairingly. The song's final lines use repetition to emphasize the importance of "letting go," perhaps implying that true peace can only be found once we accept the inevitability of death.
