Nite Klub
The Busters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is this the in place to be?
What am I doing here?
Watching the girls go by
Spending money on...

Sleep all day
It's the only way
I'm a parasite
I creep about at night

Nite Klub, is this the in place to be?
Nite Klub, what am I doing here?
Nite Klub, watching the girls go by
Spending money on...

Hey, hey, I don't work
Cos I don't have to
I don't have to work
There's no work to do

Nite Klub,
I'm a member of the Nite Klub
Nite Klub,
A fully paid up member of the Nite Klub

I won't dance in a club like this
All the girls are slags
And the beer tastes just like piss

I'm a parasite
I creep about at night
Yes I'm a member of the Nite Klub
A fully paid up member of the Nite Klub

Nite Klub, is this the in place to be?
Nite Klub, what am I doing here?

Nite Klub, watching the girls go by
Spending money on beer!

Overall Meaning

The Busters's song Nite Klub is a critical commentary on the superficiality of nightlife and the youth culture, whilst also reflecting the band's own insecurities and sense of insecurity. The first two lines of the song, "Is this the in place to be? What am I doing here?" perfectly sum up the singer's conflicting feelings towards the nightlife. He is at a high-energy club, but seems unsure of how he feels about it. This could be interpreted as the singer seeing the empty hedonism of the nightlife as a form of soulless materialism, yet he is still drawn to it. This inner dialogue is juxtaposed with the chorus, which states "Nite Klub, is this the in place to be? Nite Klub, what am I doing here? Nite Klub, watching the girls go by, spending money on...". Here, the singer is questioning why he is really there and what its meaning is. He is just a spectator watching the world go by in the club.

The subsequent lines speak to the singer's sense of disconnection and purposelessness. He sleeps all day, and the only way he can cope with it is by being a parasite, creeping about at night. He is a fully paid-up member of the Night Klub, but whether this is a good thing or bad thing is left open to interpretation. The singer's remarks about the club and its patrons are cynical and jaded, condemning the girls in the club as being promiscuous and the beer as being rubbish. The song ends with the singer spending the only thing he can afford to, money on beer. This strikes a chord with the frustrations and contradictions of being a young adult in the nineties.
