You Belong To Me
The Cadets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why don't you write me, darling
Send me your letter
Tell me you love me, dear
Make me feel better

I love you
Yes, it's you I adore
(You I adore)

When I first met you, darling
I realized
And for you, dear
I did have eyes

Please, darling
Won't you send me a line
(Send me a line)

I miss you so each day
Although you're gone away
I guess I'll love you
More and more

And as the days go by
I sometimes often cry
To see your face

Counted my blessing
Read for us all
Why don't you write me, dear
Say how you are

I love you
And it's you I adore
(You I adore)

I miss you so each day
Although you're gone away
I guess I'll love you
More and more

And as the days go by
I sometimes often cry
To see your face

Counted my blessing
Read for us all
Why don't you write me, dear
Say how you are

I love you
And it's you I adore

You I adore
It's you I adore

Overall Meaning

The Cadets' song "You Belong To Me" is a heartfelt plea for a loved one to write and send a letter to make the singer feel better. The opening verse urges the person to send a letter professing their love and expressing their feelings. The chorus repeats the simple sentiment "I love you" and encompasses the singer's adoration and longing for their loved one. The second verse details the realization of love at first sight and how the singer has eyes for the addressee. The bridge of the song reflects on the absence of the loved one and how the singer misses them more every day. The final verse is a repetition of the initial plea for the person to send a message, as the singer counts their blessings and hopes for a message from their loved one.
