Legacy
The Cadillac Three Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How did I catch your brown eyes?
How did I get your heart beating with mine?
It's something I never quite understood
Well I guess I must've tricked you good
Well must've done something in another life, right

When I'm gone, my name carved in stone
And that dash between the years, is all I left here
It won't be songs and stages I sang on
Girl, as hall of fame as I wanna be
A lifetime you loving me, hell that's a legacy

You're in everything coming off these strings
Baby you're the lead, I'm just the harmony
Behind every great man they say
There's a woman that made him that way
Looking at you girl it ain't hard to see, that

When I'm gone, my name carved in stone
And that dash between the years, is all I left here
It won't be songs and stages I sang on
Girl, as hall of fame as I wanna be
A lifetime you loving me, hell that's a legacy

When I'm gone, my name carved in stone
Over husband, friend and father
Survived by son, wife and daughter
It won't be songs that keep me living on
Girl, as hall of fame as I wanna be

It's a lot of love and a little family tree
Hell that's, a legacy

Overall Meaning

The Cadillac Three's song Legacy pays tribute to the importance of love, relationships, and family over fame and material success. The lyrics reflect on how the singer was able to capture the heart of their loved one, acknowledging that they may not fully understand why they were so lucky. The song then delves into the idea of what truly makes a legacy - not fame or material possessions, but the love and relationships we leave behind. The singer wants to be remembered not for the stages they sang on or the fame they achieved but for the lifelong love they shared with their partner and the family they created together.

The song highlights the idea that behind every successful man (or woman) is a partner who supported them and helped them become the best version of themselves. The bridge of the song, "Over husband, friend and father / Survived by son, wife and daughter / It won't be songs that keep me living on / Girl, as hall of fame as I wanna be / It's a lot of love and a little family tree / Hell, that's a legacy" emphasizes that the legacy left behind is not just about achievements, but the impact made on the lives of those closest to us.

This song serves as a reminder that true success is measured not by external accomplishments but by the love and meaningful relationships we cultivate throughout our lives.

I love this song man, and the video. These guys are truly the best damn band outta Nashville, TN period. All of them went to school together as they were practicing and learning the way that most, really great rockin' bands do! They played taverns and dive joints all around Nashville's many clubs. They eventually developed their own sound! They don't really get enough respect for their music here at home. Old Dominion got best band twice barely over TC3! They ain't even real country but more like country- pop! If you went to one of their shows, they sound nothin' like the group studio's records. Live, they sound less than up to par! That's NOT like The Cadillac Three. They are great And I am not just sayjn, I'm crazy about them 🤙
