Never Let Go
The Camel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Crazy preachers of our doom
Telling us there is no room.
Not enough for all mankind
And the seas of time are running dry.
Don't they know it's a lie...

Man is born with the will to survive,
He'll not take no for an answer.
He will get by, somehow he'll try,
He won't take no, never let go, no...

I hear them talk about Kingdom Come,
I hear them discuss Armageddon...
They say the hour is getting late,

But I can still hear someone say,
This is not the way... [Repeat]

Overall Meaning

The Camel's song Never Let Go from the album titled Camel is a song that talks about the optimism that people hold even in the face of darkness and fear. The song begins with a reference to the pessimistic preachers of doom that see no room for all of mankind on Earth, and talk of the seas of time running dry. The lyrics state that these ideas are lies, and that man is born with a will to survive that will not take no for an answer. The chorus reiterates the idea that man will never let go, no matter the circumstances.

The second verse brings up the religious discussions of Kingdom Come and Armageddon, signifying a catastrophic end to the world. Despite this, the song asserts that someone is still saying "this is not the way". The lyrics suggest that this person is holding on to hope and positivity in the face of darkness. The song ends with a soft and slow fade, as if to signify the hopeful message petering out and disappearing.
