Erase / Rewind
The Cardigans feat. Tom Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, what did you hear me say
You know the difference it makes
What did you hear me say
Yes, I said it's fine before
I don't think so no more
I said it's fine before
I've changed my mind
I take it back
Erase and rewind
'Cause I've been changing my mind
I've changed my mind
So where did you see me go
It's not the right way, you know
Where did you see me go
No, it's not that I don't know
I just don't want it to grow
It's not that I don't know

I've changed my mind
I take it back

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Cardigans' song "Erase/Rewind" speak about a person who wants to erase their past mistakes and take back their words. The first lines ask if the listener heard what was said before and emphasizes the importance of how it was interpreted. The next verse suggests that the singer had once said things were okay, but no longer believe that to be true. They have changed their mind and want to go back and undo what they have said. In the chorus, the singer repeats to "erase and rewind" because they have a "changed mind."

The second verse asks where the listener saw the singer go, emphasizing that it was the wrong way. The singer notes that they know what they're doing is unhealthy but don't want it to continue. The pause before the last chorus emphasizes the gravity of the situation before the singer repeats their plea to erase their mistakes and start over again.

The lyrics of the song speak to the idea of regret and the desire to go back and change moments that have already passed. It also suggests a broader commentary on the human experience, where people make mistakes, want to rectify them, but cannot.

Nina has a fantastic voice and Sir Tom is an absolute legend. I'm sure David Byrne is proud of this cover version.

I'm curious to hear what you think of the Paramore version that just releases then

@rngod2121

@@Glenn_3 😍 Thank you for the recommendation! I listened to that, then the Wet Leg version of "C'est Comme Ça", which led me to Paramore's "This is Why", (which had me cranking up my McIntosh Amp...
And now I am perusing the Paramore greatest Hits. I have a feeling it is going to keep me busy for a bit! 🙂

This is great. I love it that Tom Jones stays relevant by teaming up with current artists. His voice is one of few of the old guard that has survived beautifully.

@scottbieser

Whoever thought to pair up Jones and the Cardigans to cover this song is a freakin' genius.

@markpetersen2469

They had hallucinations from the heart ❤
