The Caretaker's last few projects are heavily inspired by the phenomenon of amnesia, Alzheimer's, and dementia, the brain's adversities to recall situations from the distant and immediate past. This work is best recalled in the monumental "Theoretically pure anterograde amnesia" release, a release which accurately echoes and recreates aurally the disease itself which is no mean achievement.
The Caretaker is building an ever-expanding following for his audio memories. Fans of the darker isolationist ambient work of modern composers such as William Basinski, Nurse With Wound, Aphex Twin, Fennesz and Brian Eno would find elements to admire and enjoy and also parallels to The Caretaker's output. It can be a harsh world at times but ultimately exposure is always rewarding. Immerse yourself in the darkness and give into the spirits and tales recalled and retold in his unique way.

Emptiness
The Caretaker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With a song and a wine
You're harsh and divine
Like truths and a lie
But the tale ends not here
I have nothing to fear
For my love is yell of giving and hold on
And the bright emptiness
In a room full of it
Is a cruel mistress
Whoa oh!
I feel this unrest
That nest all hollowness
For I have nowhere to go and I'm cold.
And I feel so lonely yeah...
There's a better place than this
Emptiness
And I'm so lonely yeah...
There's a better place than this
Emptiness, yeah!
Tune mere jaana
Kabhi nahi jaana
Ishq mera, dard mera, haaye!
Tune mere jaana
Kabhi nahi jaana
Ishq mera, dard mera
Aashiq tera
Bhid me khoya rehta hai,
Jaane jahaan
Poocho to itna kehta hai
That I feel so lonely yeah...
There's a better place than this
Emptiness
And I'm so lonely yeah
There's a better place than this
Emptiness, yeah!
The opening lyrics of The Caretaker's song Emptiness is a description of a love that is both harsh and divine at the same time. It is like both truth and a lie. But the story does not end there. The singer is not afraid because he loves fiercely and holds on completely. However, the bright emptiness in a room is a cruel mistress. It is a feeling of unrest that fills him with hollowness because he is left with nowhere to go and feels cold. The emptiness is a metaphor for the feeling of loneliness and the lack of meaning in one's life. The singer believes that there is a better place than this emptiness, a place where he can find meaning and purpose.
The repetition of the line "I feel so lonely yeah" emphasizes the sense of isolation and desperation. The line "Tune mere jaana, kabhi nahi jaana" is a Hindi phrase that means "you left me, never to return." The inclusion of Indian language in the song suggests a theme of cultural fusion and global influences. The use of the phrase "Ishq mera, dard mera" which translates to "my love, my pain" further emphasizes the theme of love and loneliness.
In conclusion, the song Emptiness is a poignant exploration of loneliness, love, and the search for meaning. The use of metaphors and languages from different cultures adds depth and richness to the song.

This feels to me that feeling you get after someone you love gets diagnosed with a terminal illness.
A relative I look after, was diagnosed last year with Stage IV lung cancer. October and November 2019 were two months I hated. Knowing something was seriously wrong but the not knowing, and the pain from the diagnosis doesn't really give that empty feeling, but a numb, crashing one. Especially when you don't know yet if treatment is yet available.
I'm happy to say I'm celebrating another Christmas with her this year. And by the way things are going, I think we'll be celebrating more. Can't be more proud of her.
Edit: a sad edit. My mam peacefully passed on the 6th March.
Edit 2: I really appreciate everyone's concern. May God bless you all and may peace be with you.

Feels like stepping into a cathedral at night. alone.
the cathedral your mother used to take you to every sunday.
now she is gone.
now they are all gone
and you sit
and you stare
and you wait till it hurts
you wait for the impact.

The lamb is dumb before his shearer
In patient love his lips are sealed (2x)
In patient love his lips are sealed in love
In patient love his lips are sealed
O teach us Lord, all wrath for bearing
Thy calm endurance
Thy calm endurance meekly sharing
For malice naught but love to yield (2x)
