Think It Over
The Cars Lyrics

Every time I see you I got to jump and shout
I haven't got a clue what it's all about
Ooh I never had a dream that looked so much like you
I'll do anything that you want me to

(Think it over, think it over)
There's nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
(Think it over, think it over)
Ooh every time you run around it makes me want to pop

What's it gonna take to make you change your line?
What's it gonna take to get your valentine?
How can I be sure that you're the one for me?
I only know that you wanted to be free

(Think it over, think it over)
There's nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
(Think it over, think it over)
Every time you run around it makes me want to pop
Nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop

Every time you run around makes me want to pop
Nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
Think it over
Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop
Pop

Every time I see you I got to jump and shout
I haven't got a clue what it's all about
I never had a dream that looked so much like you
Well I'll do anything that you want me to

(Think it over, think it over)
There's nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
(Think it over, think it over)
Every time you run around it makes me want to pop
(Think it over, think it over)

Well nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
(Think it over, think it over)
Every time you run around it makes me want to pop
There's nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
Every time you run around it makes me want to pop
There's nothin' you can do to make me wanna stop
Think it over
Yeah

Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
You gotta think it over

Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Think it over
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do but think it over

Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do, nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do, nothin' you can do
But think it over (think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Think it over
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do
Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)
Nothin' you can do

Nothin' you can do
(Think it over)

Overall Meaning

The Cars' song Think It Over is a classic pop-rock tune that expresses the confusion and desperation of a person who deeply yearns for someone they love, but cannot seem to get through to them. The song begins by describing the intense excitement and attraction that the singer feels when they see the object of their affections, but they do not understand why they feel this way. The chorus encourages the person to "think it over" and realize that nothing they can do will make the singer want to stop loving them, even though every time the person runs around, it makes the singer want to "pop" with frustration.

The second verse pleads with the person to change their "line," or their behavior, and to become the singer's valentine. The singer wonders how they can be sure that the person is the one for them, but they know that the person wanted to be free. The chorus repeats twice more, emphasizing the singer's resolve to continue loving the person despite their confusion and frustration.

Overall, Think It Over is a classic example of the Cars' unique blend of new wave and rock music, and it showcases the band's skill at crafting memorable tunes with catchy hooks and lyrics that resonate with listeners.

If I was one a deserted island, and could only bring one Cars song, this would be it (and I am a big fan). I was living on the Jersey Shore in 1981 when Shake It Up came out. I thought it was a great album! I could barely steer the car straight when I was listening to it. Synth-driven guitar rock with outstanding drumming (David Robinson is an under-rated drummer) coalescence into one great pop/rock song. Thanks for posting.

My favorite song off of Shake It Up. Helped me get over the fact that I didn't like Shake It Up as much as Panorama. But I later realized that the Cars were just moving into their next phase, which they continued to do with later albums.
