honestly
The Cartel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Please don't mind what I'm trying to say 'cause I'm, I'm being honest
When I tell you that you
You, You're part of the reason I'm so set on the rest of my life
Being a part of you
You tell me what you think about being open,
About being honest with yourself

Cause things will never be the same.

So I guess I'll see you, I'll see you around
I'm spinning, while I'm falling down
Now you know why I'm begging you to stay

Don't waste time getting to the point, 'cause I'm, I'm patiently waiting
For your next phone call, your next excuse for losing sleep again
Tell me what you think about being open,
About being honest with yourself

Cause things will never be the same.

So I guess I'll see you, I'll see you around
I'm spinning, while I'm falling down
Now you know why I'm begging you to stay

Cause I can't stop it now
It's so amazing how
I know I can't, I could never walk away

How can we resolve this now?
We let it go, and wonder how
This can ever be the same
(Can never be the)
Can ever be the same

So I guess I'll see you, I'll see you around
I'm spinning, I'm while falling down
Now you know why I'm begging you, I'm begging!

Cause I can't stop it now,
It's so amazing how,
I know I can't, I could never walk away!

Please don't mind what I'm trying to say 'cause I'm, I'm being honest.

This song was stuck in my head the first day of 9th grade in 2006. Such good times.

@BillyBones-ui9ck

Same here. Goddamn I miss highschool

@RealRenanzinDw

Such good song

I hate that I was 5 years old when the peak of music and culture was happening. I was completely oblivious to the world around me while I sat on the floor watching Tom & Jerry playing with legos 😭

@chrish3615

Never understood why this band wasn't bigger than they are.....excellent music

@poisenbery

Long time fan here:
they weren't mainstream or really successful because most of the songs are written from the perspective of the singer and not from the perspective of the listener.
I like "Deep South" a lot but I cannot relate to the meaning of the song at all.
That's kind of where the "issue" lies.
Yes, the music is good, but the meanings are not relatable to a broader audience.
A lot of their songs are about falling out with women as well. The singer is insanely attractive and probably has access to a lot of women. Again, not relatable to a broad audience.
This is essentially why a low effort song about breaking up with someone can be more popular than a cartel song about breaking up: cartel music is more personal to the singer rather than being relatable to a broad audience.

@CropdustingMiller22

@@poisenbery Some of that definitely has its truth. I've read stuff where Will Pugh, the vocalist, says that there were some major label problems that led to them not get the airplay they were basically guaranteed to get. Altpress did an article on it about 6 years ago I believe.

@koreyjohnson5287

Because All Time Low was already a band and already had this sound.

@ey3z4ya

@@koreyjohnson5287All Time Low came around the exact same time as Cartel, I don't think you can credit them

@jijitters

@@koreyjohnson5287 Their sound isn't really all that similar, and Cartel were and still are way better than ATL lol
