Great Is Thy Faithfulness

O God my Father
There is no shadow of
Turning with Thee
Thou changest not
Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou
Forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter
And springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness Lord, unto me!
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness Lord, unto me!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness Lord, unto me!
The lyrics of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" express the poet's awe and admiration for God's unchanging nature and the abundance of blessings bestowed upon each person every day. The opening lines speak of God's steadfast nature, that there is not a hint of inconsistency or deceit in God's character. The second verse presents God as the master of the universe, in control of everything in it, and all of nature bears witness to His faithfulness.
The third verse speaks of God's provision for the poet's own well-being, both physically and spiritually. It tells of forgiveness and peace and the assurance of His presence, and promises strength to face the challenges of the present day and the hope of a bright tomorrow. The song ends as it began, with the repeated affirmation of God's great faithfulness.
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness" is a timeless hymn that's been around for more than 100 years. The song was written by Thomas O. Chisholm in 1923 and was based on Lamentations 3:22-23. It was first published in a hymn book called "Run to Meet the Morning." Today it remains one of the most popular hymns of all time, sung in churches around the world.
