Somebody
The Chainsmokers;Drew Love Lyrics

In the town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels
Looks exactly the way it did inside my head
When I dreamed about it
All the things I could live without
I need it now 'cause they're all around me
Only thing that I can't afford is to lose myself
Tryna be somebody, somebody
You should've known better
Than to listen to your heart again
People change with the weather
(You know, just know what I like)
I don't really like anybody
So don't tell me I'm like anybody else
You put it back together
Don't let it fall apart again
People change with the weather

In the town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels
Looks exactly the way it did inside my head
When I dreamed about it
All the things I could live without
I need it now 'cause they're all around me
Only thing that I can't afford is to lose myself
Tryna be somebody, somebody

Somebody
(You know, just know what I like)
Somebody

In my head I knew better (in my head I knew better)
I won't blame it on my faults again
I know I should forget her
(You know, just know what I like)
I don't really like anybody
So don't tell me I'm like anybody else

In the town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels
Looks exactly the way it did inside my head
When I dreamed about it
All the things I could live without
I need it now 'cause they're all around me
Only thing that I can't afford is to lose myself
Tryna be somebody, somebody

Somebody, somebody, somebody
Somebody
(You know, just know what I like)
Somebody, somebody
Somebody, somebody
(You know, just know what I like)

'Cause I don't really like anybody
So don't tell me I'm like anybody
'Cause I don't really like anybody
So don't tell me I'm like anybody

In the town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels
Looks exactly the way it did inside my head
When I dreamed about it
All the things I could live without
I need it now 'cause they're all around me
Only thing that I can't afford is to lose myself
Tryna be somebody, somebody

Somebody, somebody
Somebody, somebody
(You know, just know what I like)
Somebody, somebody
Somebody, somebody
(You know, just know what I like)

You can stop tryna be somebody
You can stop tryna be somebody

Overall Meaning

The Chainsmokers's "Somebody" depicts the dilemma of trying to fit in and be somebody, as the title suggests. Despite living in a town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels, the singer appears unsatisfied with their life. The singer recalls dreaming about the town, and how it looks exactly as they had imagined. However, the only thing they can't afford is to lose themselves, which seems a recurring theme in the song. They are trying to fit in by being somebody, but in reality, they don't really like anybody else. There are clear internal conflicts, and the lyrics suggest that the singer is confused and doesn't know what to do.

As the song progresses, the singer tries to put themselves back together after falling apart. However, people change with time, and the weather, implying that life is not constant, and one can't always rely on things to be the same. The song ends with the singer accepting that they don't like anybody else, and implores listeners to stop trying to be somebody.

This is my very first youtube comment and confession towards how much i love this song.

Everytime when i felt kinda damaged
The Chainsmoker's single came

A kind coldness that warm people's heart
What's wrong for being cold

If can't be warmed
Then just enjoy the chilled

Thank you for the great song~
