Time / The End Of Time
The Chameleons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One chance is all you have
When it's gone
All you have is sorrow
One chance is all you have
Take it on
Like there's no tomorrow
Don't waste your time
Don't waste time
Time

Time slipping away
Have to make the most of your time
You don't have time
Time
Open the door
Somewhere in the back of your mind
Child
You don't have time anymore

Unchanged intoxicating youth
Such an endless feeling
Those days
Are softly stolen away
While your head is reeling

Don't waste your time,
You can't waste time
It's time
It's time

Time slipping away
Have to make the most of your time
You don't have time
Time
Open the door
Somewhere in the back of your mind
Child
You don't have time
Any more

Don't waste your days away
And crying all night

Lonely child, lonely child
Hear me

Overall Meaning

out, hear me out
Time is fleeting, and the lyrics of "Time / The End of Time" by The Chameleons speak to this very sentiment. The song begins by reminding us that we only have one chance in life, and when it's gone, all we are left with is sorrow. The lyrics urge us to take that one chance and make the most of it, as if there is no tomorrow. The message here is clear - we should never waste time, for it is the most precious commodity we have.

As the song progresses, we are reminded again and again that time is slipping away. The lyrics tell us that we don't have time anymore, and we must make the most of the time we have left. The song takes an introspective turn as it speaks of youth, and how those days are softly stolen away while our heads are reeling. We are cautioned not to waste our time or our days away by crying all night and being a "lonely child."

The song ends with a plea to the listener to hear the message and not waste any more time. The haunting melody and stark lyrics drive home the reality of the fleeting nature of time and how important it is to make the most of every moment.

Love this.
Would lift me up in the darkest times.
