After the release of their first full-length record, the Lake Bottom LP in 2008, Jessica left the band to start a family. Abigail and Lily, now a duo, recorded and released the aptly titled follow-up Two to critical acclaim.
The Chapin Sisters spent 2010 touring the world with She & Him (M. Ward & Zooey Deschanel), pulling double duty as part of the band and performing nightly as the opening act.

Don't wanna live
Sad and lonely, no, no
So go get a rock
and just stone me, woah oh
Have mercy on me
don't you see?
Kill me now, oh, kill me now
You've ruined my life
don't defend it, no, no
Just go get a a knife
and please end it, woah oh
Have mercy on me
it's the end
Don't you see?
Kill me now, oh, kill me now x2
The fire begins as a spark
Next thing you know the whole world is in flames
Next thing you know it's always the same
always the same
You think I'm strong
but I'm not
you can take me
Can't watch it die
not our love
please don't make me
Have mercy on me
it's the end
Don't you see?
kill me now, oh, kill me now x4
The Chapin Sisters' song Kill Me Now presents a plea to end life due to a painful and lonely existence. The opening lines reveal the singer's desperation, stating that she does not want to live sad and lonely anymore, asking to end it by stoning or stabbing her. The plea is repeated several times in the song, each time with greater emphasis. The message is clear, life has become unbearable, and death seems to be the only way out.
The middle section of the song elongates the message, shifting the focus towards the significance and cause of the pain. The lyrics suggest that the agony began as a tiny spark but gradually exploded into a ferocious fire, engulfing everything in its path. Although the exact cause of the hurt is not explicitly stated, the song implies a failed romantic relationship, which has ruined the singer's life. The singer acknowledges that she is not strong enough to fight the fight anymore and can't watch love die. Therefore, she begs for mercy and requests to end her life.
Overall, Kill Me Now depicts the darker, more devastating aspects of human emotions. The song is powerful, and the lyrics cut deep. It communicates the pain that comes with emotional turmoil, hopelessness and helplessness, and the desperate need for a way out of it all. This song is never one to listen to lightly, but it is an important reflection of the human experience.
