Racing the Tide
The Chemical Brothers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Written by Tom Rowlands
As the song is instrumental, there are no lyrics to interpret in the traditional sense. However, the title "Racing the Tide" evokes a sense of urgency and a rush against time, which is reflected in the fast-paced and pumping beats of the track. The progression of the music and the sweeps of electronic soundscapes create a feeling of momentum and acceleration, as if the listener is being propelled forward.
The various layers of sounds and the way they interact with each other creates a sense of chaos and order, creating an interesting contrast throughout the song. It seems to reflect the tension between control and chaos, which is a common theme in The Chemical Brothers's music. The fluidity and unpredictability of the music also lends itself to various interpretations, allowing the listener to form their own story or meaning.

I remember Kazaa circa 2003-4 had "Surrender" listed as "Racing The Tide". Wish there was a track just called the latter as a b-side.
