The Chicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I need love, love to ease my mind,
I need to find, find someone to call mine,
But mama said you can't hurry love,
No you just have to wait,
She said love don't come easy,
It's a game of give and take.
You can't hurry love,
No, you just have to wait,
You gotta trust, give it time,
No matter how long it takes;
But how many heartaches must I stand
Before I find a love to let me live again.
Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on,
When I feel my strength, yeah, it's almost gone,
I remember mama said,

You can't hurry love,
No you just have to wait,
She said love don't come easy,
It's a game of give and take.
How long must I wait how much more can I take,
Before loneliness will 'cause my heart, heart to break?
No, I can't bear to live my life alone.
I grow impatient for a love to call my own,
But when I feel that I, I can't go on,
These precious words keeps me hanging on,
I remember mama said,

Can't hurry love,
No you just have to wait,
She said love don't come easy,
it's a game of give and take.

You can't hurry love,
No you just have to wait,
She said love don't come easy,
It's a game of give and take
No matter how long it takes.

No love, love don't come easy,
But I keep on waiting, anticipating for that
Soft voice to talk to me at night,
For some tender arms to hold me tight.
I keep waiting; I keep on waiting,
But it ain't easy, it ain't easy when mama said

You can't hurry love no,
You just have to wait,
She said trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes.

You can't hurry love
You just have to wait,

She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take.

Overall Meaning

The Chicks' "Can't Hurry Love" is a rendition of the hit song originally recorded by The Supremes in 1966. The song is a plea for love from someone struggling with loneliness and the pain of heartbreak. In the first verse, the singer mentions her need for love to ease her mind and help her forget her past heartaches. However, her mother reminds her that love cannot be rushed and that it's necessary to trust the process and give it time. The chorus of the song emphasizes this idea, repeating that she can't hurry love and must wait for it to come naturally.

The second verse delves deeper into the singer's struggles, asking how many more heartaches she must endure before finding a love that will allow her to live again. She grows impatient and weary, but the advice given by her mother provides her with hope and the determination to keep waiting for the right person to come along. The final verses reiterate the message that love is a complex game that requires patience, trust, and a willingness to give and take.

@feliciagoodrich3482

I'll be a Dixie chicks fan forever. I got their first cd for my 6th birthday and I wore that thing out. Now at 26 I'm still jamming out to their music.

@DanAnkers

I found the cassette tape of theirs in a used car that I bought a long long time ago when cassettes and cassette players were in cars lol. So I put that baby in the cassette player and I started playing it. I liked it so much that I ended up playing it for like weeks straight, exclusively. I was never a country fan back then, but they just made such happy sounding music was so much soul and was so much talent. Not only that, their songwriting ability is truly at another level. I mean these ladies are actual artists. Not just pop musicians. Now I was a young dude so it was kind of embarrassing to like it so much. I would turn it down when people were next to my car. I eventually stopped being embarrassed by it and would just blast it and smile at people. I'm a fan... Now of course I'm grown, so I'll be listening to the sappiest song by any artist and I'll just blast it shamelessly. But I'm pretty sure that the Dixie Chicks were the first group that broke that barrier in me
