Here's a Health to the Company
The Chieftains Lyrics

Kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme
Come lift up your voices in chorus with mine
Come lift up your voices, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

So here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let's drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
Here's a health to the wee lass that I love so well
For style and for beauty there's none can excel
There's a smile on her countenance as she sits upon my knee
There is no man in this wide world as happy as me

So here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let's drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

Our ship lies at anchor, she is ready to dock
I wish her safe landing without any shock
And if ever I should meet you by land or by sea
I will always remember your kindness to me

So here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let's drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again

Such an emotional and...human song. We desire and like companions, both romantic and as trusty friends, that we can rely on. We like these happy and positive things, yet we feel as bittersweet as the song, when we must say goodbye to them, be this a sort of trip or even death. Some of the words are happy, but the general feel of the song is...this could be it. It's almost a cross between "we're glad we had such things" and "but...it's gone" (or could be).

Great song.

Reece Frasier

quite right, but there is comfort. Dont be sad because it will end, all great things must eventually end, be joyful because it happened :)

Badlad

Try Owain Phyfe's version. New World Renaissance Band. He captures that bittersweet sorrow better and I told him himself that his version was better

This is the closing song of most Renaissance Faires. It is a song very true to life, and beautiful in sentiment.

Such a beautiful song. Wishing good upon the people you're lucky enough to spend time with... enjoying the good times while you're lucky to have them. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

How can one man have such control over his voice? It’s mesmerizing
