1. The Cinematics were an indie band which formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003. The band consisted of Scott Rinning (vocals, guitar), Larry Reid (guitar), Adam Goemans (bass) and Ross Bonney (drums). Ramsay Miller (guitar) left the band in 2008 and was replaced by Reid. The band has released two albums, "A Strange Education" (2007) and "Love and Terror" (2009). The band began recording their third album in Berlin in 2010. On July 25th 2011 it was reported that the band had split for good.
The band signed with TVT Records in 2005, and the label released "A Strange Education" in March 2007. The single "Keep Forgetting" was released from the album the previous month, and the album included the band's previous singles, "Chase" and "Break". In 2008, TVT Records announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and The Cinematics were one of a small handful of TVT artists whose contracts were retained by The Orchard, who purchased TVT's assets and back catalog. The Orchard released the band's second album, "Love and Terror" in September 2009. Two singles, "Love and Terror" and "New Mexico", were released from the album.
2. The Cinematics were a pre-Razorcuts Gregory Webster and Tim Vass, who put out one 7" EP 'Farewell To The Playground' on Pulsebeat Records (of Luton!) in 1982. One of the songs from the EP 'Puffa Train' would later appear on the Messthetics # 7: UK '78-82 "D.I.Y." Bands: "C" compilation and on The Sun Shines Here (The Roots Of Indie-Pop 1980-1984) box set. The Cinematics sound somewhat like the Razorcuts but in heavy overcoats rather than anoraks.

To fears of being left behind
Scratching in the sand for the lost things
Pouring water on dead flowers
Hoping they might grow again
Might grow again, might grow again
Woken up at night by an empty heart
It was a false start, a false start
I, I wonder if you could ever stop
I, I wonder if you just let this go
I, I wonder if you could ever stop
I, I wonder if you
Just let it go, let it go, let it go
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It'll be alright
Walking around these
Halls for two long years
Been looking for
The door I came in
But now there's something that I'm waiting for
There's something that I'm waiting for
Or maybe I've been chasing it
I don't know but I have to go, I have to go
If I try, tell me, will you try?
Hold on
It's alright
Oh, oh, oh
It's alright
Oh, oh
It'll be alright
Oh, oh, oh
There's a way out
We can take it if you like
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
Turning into something new
Whatever we may need
I want to try
I want to try
I have to try
I have to try
To hold on
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
It's alright
The Cinematics’ song “Human” presents a mixture of emotions that stem from feeling lost, abandoned, and misguided. The opening verse illustrates a person who is holding onto their fears and refusing to move on from certain things, even if they’ve lost all hope. The portrayal of “pouring water on dead flowers” reveals someone who is clinging onto a past that is no longer there, and quite possibly, something they can never regain. The chorus shows the chorus wondering if they can ever let go, move on, or stop trying to cling onto something that may no longer be attainable.
The second verse evokes a desperate cry for help as the singer embodies sadness and melancholy. The lines, “Woken up at night by an empty heart, We'll cry ourselves to sleep, It was a false start, a false start,” suggests a sense of hopelessness and the desire for closure. The singer is coming to terms with the fact that the things they once had may be gone forever, and it's time to move on.
The song then transitions into a hopeful and optimistic tone, as the chorus repeats the phrase, "it's alright" several times, signifying a message of resilience and perseverance. Furthermore, the singer’s desire to try, to hold on, and to find something new depicts a sense of hope and promise that they will eventually find their way out of feeling lost.
Overall, “Human” is a song that explores the complexity of human emotions while demonstrating hope and triumph in overcoming difficult times.
