Wake Me Up
The City Harmonic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How long, how long will the river run dry
'Cause I'm so busy living I forgot to be alive
And I've lost count of the beat of Your heart
Come on, come on won't You wake me up
Wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, yeah

Cause when You sound You bring to life
Even my darkest of nights
Wake me up to shine
Oh

Yeah, I've come home like a prodigal son
If home's where the heart is that is in the hands of God
And that is just where my heart belongs
Turn on the light, come on wake me up
Wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, yeah

Cause when You sound You bring to life
Even my darkest of nights
You wake me up to shine
Oh

Sleep will last from the dead
Sing Your songs instead
Right up to the end
Come on wake up

Sing out Your songs of life
In Your darkest nights
It will be alright
Come on wake up
Wake up

You gotta wake me up
Wake me up
You gotta wake me up
Wake me up
You gotta wake me up
Wake wake me up
You gotta wake me up
Wake wake me up
You got to wake me up!

You shine
You bring to life

Even my darkest of nights
You wake me up to shine

Overall Meaning

The song Wake Me Up by The City Harmonic is a call to God to wake up the songwriter and bring him back to life. The first verse begs the question of how long the songwriter will continue to forget to experience the joys of living and get lost in the daily grind. The writer admits to losing touch with the beat of God's heart and implores Him to wake him up. The second verse references the parable of the prodigal son and admits that the writer has come home to where his heart belongs, in the hands of God. The chorus repeats the plea for God to wake the songwriter up, as God's sound brings life, even in the darkest of nights.

The bridge reinforces the idea that God's songs of life and light can awaken even the dead and that they will be alright. The song ends with a final plea for God to wake up the writer and bring him back to life so that he can shine as God intended.

The song is an emotional plea for spiritual awakening and rejuvenation. It reveals that the songwriter has lost touch with their spiritual center and is looking to God for guidance and support. It's a message that will resonate with many who have gone through a similar experience. The song's melody and lyrics work together to create a heartfelt cry for help and healing.

They are not coldplay. They are their own thing, and they each belong to God. Can't wait to see them in heaven, possibly play music in heaven. Probably will have keyboards up there, they might as well since there are other instruments there. All of their songs are deserving to be singles.

Annette
