Australian 4 piece TheCityShakeUp have built their reputation with punk around the edges renegade rock. Born from the bowels of 90’s punk and rock – TCSU write their music collectively drawing on the combined influences and ideals of all four members in the band. This united front is heavily represented on their latest EP “Trigger Happy Slander” – a social commentary on the less chivalrous - Addressing futile hostility, first world problems and everyone’s old friend heart-ache.
With a sound that’s been forged on the road, TCSU bare it all on stage and leave nothing behind. Whether the show is for a crowd of a thousand or simply for a select few the lads make it their mission to ensure everyone leaves as sweaty and thunderstruck as they are. Winning over the crowd at Australias longest running national music festival – The Big Day Out in 2011, Opening for Canada’s finest Billy Talent in 2012 amongst an onslaught of international and local supports (not to mention their own headlining tours). The TCSU lads are no strangers to the stage and life on the road.
The traditional DIY punk ethos is one that is not lost on these lads. TCSU are self managed, self funded, self promoted, hell they even design and print their own shirts. It only takes one look at their completely self shot film clips or a quick listen to any of the releases recorded in their self made studio (they even constructed their own vocal booth) to realize these self sufficient beasts are no chumps.
Pouring every ounce of energy they have into their music and with 2013 set to be their biggest year yet, The City Shakeup show no signs of slowing down as they herald in a new breed of DIY rock renegades.

To that I ask if you believe democracy is fair
Could I win the next election with my morals still in tact
Or is the way we rise above to scratch the devils back
You tell me that I'm jaded and a rebel with no cause
Well since I lack direction please enlighten me with yours
Political agenda has been twisted just to serve
Have we lost control?
This is our hope, this is our fate
This is our fight for a better day
We tried to run you made us crawl, til now
This is our war, this is our hell
Just another notch on our prison cell
We tried to run you made us crawl
The writing's on the wall
So you started out with good intent your morals set in stone
But quickly realised you'd never make it on your own
It couldn't hurt to take a bribe when reasons are so pure
But corruption is an illness one for which there is no cure
So yes I give a fuck about political disease
and no I will not cast my vote to put your mind at ease
Perhaps if everybody wasn't forced upon their knees
then we'd tell you to go fuck yourself with your democracy
This is our hope, this is our fate
This is our fight for a better day
We tried to run you made us crawl, til now
This is our war, this is our hell
Just another notch on our prison cell
We tried to run you made us crawl
The writing's on the wall
Conform, Consript, comply
Never be afraid to ask why
Submit, Subserve
Is this all we deserve?
This is our hope, this is our fate
This is our fight for a better day
We tried to run you made us crawl, til now
This is our war, this is our hell
Just another notch on our prison cell
We tried to run you made us crawl
The writing's on the wall
Well the writings on the wall
The writing's on the wal
The City Shakeup's song Writings on the Wall is a political anthem that raises important questions about democracy and corruption. The first verse challenges the notion that not voting implies that one is apathetic towards politics. The singer asks if there is any point in participating in a political system that is inherently unfair. Furthermore, the second verse critiques the twisted political agenda that serves the interests of a privileged few rather than the people.
The chorus of the song, "This is our hope, this is our fate. This is our fight for a better day. We tried to run you made us crawl, til now," expresses the frustration and determination of the people who are seeking change. The repetitive line "The writing's on the wall" implies that the corruption and injustice in the system are clear for all to see.
The last verse of the song stresses the importance of not compromising one's morals and values for personal gain. The line "corruption is an illness one for which there is no cure" suggests that once individuals start taking bribes, they become part of the corrupt system and lose their integrity.
Overall, the song is a call to action for people to question the political system and stand up against corruption for the sake of a better future.

These guys are one of the few reasons why I'd actually go to Warped Tour this year, they're super bad ass and great! Doesn't hurt that they're catchy and have a big punk vein in them either.
