Loving You
The City of London Philharmonic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Loving you is not a choice
It's who I am
Loving you is not a choice
Not much reason to rejoice
But it gives me purpose
Gives me voice
To say to the world
This is why I live
You are what I live
This is why I live

Loving you is why I do the things I do
Loving you is not in my control
But loving you I have a goal
For what's left of my life
I will live
And I will die
For you

It gives me purpose
Gives me voice
To say to the world
This is why I live
Yes, this is why I live
Loving you is why I do the things I do
Loving you is not in my control
But loving you
I have a goal
For what's left of my life
I will live
And I will die
For you

I will live

And I will die
For you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Loving You" by The City of London Philharmonic speak to the all-encompassing nature of love. Loving someone is not a choice, it is a part of who they are. The song acknowledges that being in love does not always come with reasons to rejoice, but it does give the person a sense of purpose and a voice. They are able to say to the world that loving this person is why they live and what gives their life meaning.

The lyrics also indicate that loving someone is not always in their control. The person singing the song has a goal and that is to live and die for the person they love. They will do whatever it takes to show their love and commitment, even if it means sacrificing their own life for them. The person finds purpose in their love and through it, they are able to make sense of their life and the world around them.

Overall, the song explores the idea of unconditional love and how it can give someone a sense of purpose and direction in life. It acknowledges that love is not always easy, but it is something that cannot be helped.

I have been litsening to this since it was released back in 1985. It's now 2023, I'm 66, and I have just seen this for the first time. I lost it. I needed a box of Kleenex badly. What a beautiful GIFT this song, performance and band are!! The Wilson sisters are the very best of the best.

@davidwoods4300

Yep I'm 69 now and wished I'd made the effort to attend Newcastle civic centre in 2011 when they played a great concert. Wilson sisters unrecognised greatness somehow, but hall of fame in 2013 helped. 😅. Discovered them late on you tube but what an unbelievable history on you tube. Such a rich amazing rock contribution and history

And Howard Leese on lead guitar, keyboard, back up vocals, and everything else for 23 years. Legend

You know you're a Queen when you can make Robert Plant cry when signing one of his songs!

These two have brought us great music for decades. Arguably one of the best female groups ever. Join me in thanking them.
