At the time, it was somewhat smaller than today and it was called the Filmový symfonický orchestr (FISYO) (The Film Symphony Orchestra) or was sometimes known as the Film Symphony of Prague. Many wonderful international films were done by this orchestra in the early days. Recordings have been made for film production companies such as Paramount, Sony, Lucasfilm and many others in the Smecky Music Studios. David Lynch returned again in 1997 to record his Lost Highway, and yet again in 2001 to record Mulholland Drive.
Fully privatized after the Velvet Revolution, today, the musicians and supporting professionals continue to play and record music together (usually every day of the week) for major international films, television series, CDs/DVDs, video games, and even ring tones - both for the Czech Republic market and for clients & media productions around the world.
The Man With the Golden Gun
The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He charges a million a shot
An assassin that's second to none
The man with the golden gun
Lurking in some darkened doorway
Or crouched on a rooftop somewhere
In the next room, or this very one
Love is required, whenever he's hired
It comes just before the kill
No one can catch him, no hitman can match him
For his million dollar skill
One golden shot means another poor victim
Has come to a glittering end
For a price, he'll erase anyone
The man with the golden gun
His eye may be on you or me
Who will he bang?
We shall see, oh yeah!
Love is required, whenever he's hired
It comes just before the kill
No one can catch him, no hitman can match him
For his million dollar skill
One golden shot means another poor victim
Has come to a glittering end
If you want to get rid of someone
The man with the golden gun
Will get it done
He'll shoot anyone
With his golden gun
The City of Prague Orchestra's song "Man With The Harmonica" is an original composition for the 1965 western film "Once Upon a Time in the West". The song's musical style is heavily influenced by Ennio Morricone's iconic western film scores, using symphonic orchestration and distinctive percussion instruments to create a sense of tension, suspense, and drama. However, the lyrics of the song describe another kind of suspenseful character: a hitman known as "the man with the golden gun".
In the song, the man with the golden gun is depicted as an assassin for hire, who charges a million dollars per shot and is second to none in his skill. He is described as lurking in darkened doorways or on rooftops, ready to take out his next victim. The only requirement for his services is that love must be present beforehand, just before his deadly shot. No one can catch him or match his skills, and for a price, he'll erase anyone with his golden gun. The song's tense melody and driving percussion create a sense of danger that perfectly fits the depiction of this deadly character.
Overall, "Man With The Harmonica" is a powerful and dramatic piece of music that captures the excitement and suspense of the mystery-filled western genre. The incorporation of lyrics about the hitman with the golden gun adds an extra layer of intrigue and danger to the already captivating instrumental score.
