I've Got An Angel
The Clark Sisters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

VERSE:
I've got an angel with me, in my sleep
Watching over me and my soul to keep
I've got an angel looking after me
Going to and fro and waiting me
When I'm in need
Protects me from all dangers
Seen and unseen
Stripping the powers of darkness
Angels encamped aroung me
Touching me in the morning
My eyes to see

Got singing angels
I can hear'em, I can feel'em
Encamped all around me
Got ministring angels
They're beside me, to guide me
Encamped all around me

It's an army of angels
(All around me) Oh yes!

Got an angel watching over me
Keeping me from all hurt, harm, and danger
Oh oh oh oh, Got an angel watching over me
Keeping me from all hurt, harm and danger, yes!

Got singing angels
I can hear'em, I can feel'em
Encamped all around me
Got ministring angels
They're beside me, to guide me
Encamped all around me

Got an angel watching over me
Keeping me from all hurt, harm, and danger
Oh oh oh oh, Got an angel watching over me
Keeping me from all hurt, harm and danger,

Angels watching over me
Angels watching over me
Angels watching over me
Angels watching over me

Angels watching over me
Angels watching over me, over me
Angels watching over me

Angels watching over me, over me
(repeat til fade...)

I just love how Jackie dances through the lyrics. I love the dramatic inflection she uses (Not many singers can) to tell a story of her angels. The harmonies of her sisters make this a top 5 favorite Clark Sister song.

By 3:04 that breakdown. Twinkie comes in as the alto, then Karen's soprano and Dorinda as the tenor. Then the next line Twinkie is back to the tenor part. They are so versatile.

I noticed. They're so great! 👏👏👏

Twinkie used to always do little playful things with the alto line in their songs

You know I listen to this song all the time and I never paid attention to that little gem right there

Terranty Stancil

Twinkie can Soprano with Denise and Karen and when Dorinda had to, Alto with Dorinda and Jacky, Tenor with Jacky and still Baritone. That's why Dr Mattie Moss-Clark traveled with Twinkie, Denise and eventually Karen more in their earlier years.

@Terranty Stancil all of them can sing any part
