Help Me Out
The Clarks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You always told me that you'd
Understand if I ever found something else
That I wanted to do
You always showed me right from wrong
You always let me sing my song
That's what I wanted to do

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout
Help me out
C'mon help me out

When I find myself alone
Living life without a home
That's where I wanted to be
If I need you in the end
Will you always be my friend
That's what I need you to be

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout
Help me out
C'mon help me out

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout
Help me out
C'mon help me out
C'mon help me out

[Solo]

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout
Help me out
C'mon help me out

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout
Help me out
C'mon help me out

Help me out
I'm just a little down and out
Help me out
You gotta let me scream and shout

Help me out
Hey, c'mon help me out

Overall Meaning

The Clarks's song "Help Me Out" is a plea to a loyal friend or partner to support the singer in pursuing their dreams. The lyrics suggest that the singer has always had the support of this person, who has allowed them to "sing their song" and pursue what they wanted to do. However, now the singer finds themselves "alone" and "living life without a home" implying that they are struggling to achieve their aspirations. They turn to their friend or partner to help them out of this slump, allowing them to scream and shout as a form of catharsis.

The song alludes to the idea of the American Dream, the notion that anyone can achieve success through hard work, determination, and perseverance. The lyrics suggest that the singer is trying to pursue their version of this dream, but they have hit a roadblock. The idea of having someone to rely on during tough times is a common theme in music and reflects the importance of having a support system.

Overall, The Clarks's "Help Me Out" is a relatable and heartfelt song about the difficulties that come with pursuing one's dreams, and the importance of having someone to lean on during tough times.

Actually guys, thats his Gibson Les Paul Jr. Special. It was a limited run with the finish and Pickups. It is the body of a flat top LP Jr, but has the second Pickup in the neck and tone/volume controls. The Pickups are P100s, not P90's. This is a "Stacked Single Coil" for a little more "oomph" in the tune and also less noise (single coils tend to be noisier). Last time I talked to him it was still out of commission due to a broken tuning peg on the headstock. Hope I Helped! Rob's my hero...
