Pressure Drop
The Clash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It is you, oh yeah
It is you, oh yeah

I said a pressure drop,
Oh pressure, oh yeah
Pressure's gonna drop on you
I said pressure drop
Oh pressure, oh yeah
Pressure's gonna drop on you

I said when it drops
Oh you gonna feel it
Oh that you were doin' it wrong, wrong, wrong
Now when it drops
Oh you gonna feel it
That you were doin' it wrong and how

I said when it drops
You gonna feel it
That you've been doin' it wrong
Now when it drops, drop
You gonna feel it
That you've been doin' wrong

Now when it drops, drop
Feel it
You make the wrong move
Now when it drops, drop
You gonna feel it
That you've been it doin' wrong

I said, pressure drop
Oh pressure, oh yeah
Pressure's gonna drop on you
Pressure drop
Oh pressure, oh yeah
Pressure's gonna drop on you

Now when it drops on your dirty little head
Where you gonna go?
It's you, you, you
When it drop on, oh you're gonna feel it
What you're doing is wrong, wrong, wrong

Pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure
I said a pressure drop

Overall Meaning

The Clash's song Pressure Drop is a powerful and energetic track that deals with the consequences of living life recklessly and indulging in vice. The repeated lyrics "It is you, oh yeah," make it clear that the song is a message directed at a specific individual, calling out their behavior and warning them of an impending "pressure drop." The chorus of the song is particularly powerful as it warns of the inevitable consequences that will occur when the pressure drops: "Pressure's gonna drop on you...Now when it drops, oh you gonna feel it, That you were doin' it wrong and how."

Through its use of repetition, hard-hitting guitar riffs, and aggressive vocals, Pressure Drop effectively conveys the consequences of reckless behavior. The track challenges the listener to take responsibility for their actions before it's too late and they are consumed by the pressure. The song is a classic example of The Clash's political and social commentary, aiming to provoke thought and action from their audience.

@rothr - being an Arizona kid, no Jamaican neighbors or schoolmates, the Clash exposed me to Ska and Rock steady with their lyrics like in WMIHP.

I was fortunate and old enough to have seen Toots and The Maytals and the Clash more than once. Two true gentlemen gone.
