Holy Water
The Classic Crime Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Midnight stop on the street
Red light feet on the ground
And it feels right
Quiet besides the engine I
Escape into paradise
It goes green
And I'm back at top speed
Not another body in sight
I am this perspective
I'm the witness tonight

I am alone
But I'm alive

Every drop of holy water
Comes from the ocean
From the ocean
Every atom in my body
Comes from exploding stars
Billions of years ago

Outside craning your neck
Blue sky stretching your back with your arms wide
Taking deep breaths to purify
Pretty sure that you could be certified
There is no Goddamned thing in sight
It's all deemed good in his eyes
You are this perspective
Here to witness the light

You are alone
But you're alive

Every drop of holy water
Comes from the ocean
From the ocean
Every atom in my body
Comes from exploding stars
Billions of years ago

All that rises must converge
It's only pain that makes us learn
Exclusive, separate turns infinite to infant
So I dive in and I get burned
The depths are deep, and dark, and hurt
Baptize and resurrect
Each death a new perspective

Every drop of holy water
Comes from the ocean
From the ocean
Every atom in my body
Comes from exploding stars
Billions of years ago

Every drop is holy water
All of us are sons and daughters
Every breath inhaled is heaven sent

Midnight stop on the street
Red light feet on the ground
And it feels right
Quiet besides the engine I
Escape into paradise
It goes green
And I'm back at top speed
Not another body in sight

I am this perspective
I'm the witness tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Classic Crime's song "Holy Water" depict moments of reflection, self-awareness, and spirituality. The song begins with the singer finding solace and escape in the stillness of the night. They feel a sense of liberation as they drive through the empty streets, taking in the beauty of the world around them. Despite being alone, they feel alive and connected to something greater.

As the song progresses, it shifts to a broader perspective, inviting the listener to contemplate their own existence. The lyrics emphasize the interconnectedness of all things, drawing parallels between the holy water and the vastness of the ocean, and how every atom in our bodies originated from exploding stars billions of years ago. It highlights the idea that we are all part of something much larger and sacred.

The chorus reinforces these notions, encouraging us to recognize our own divinity and the inherent value of every human being. It suggests that we are all sons and daughters, and that every breath we take carries a sense of divine purpose. The song concludes with a repetition of the opening verse, emphasizing the cyclical nature of life and the continuous opportunity for new perspectives and growth.

Overall, "Holy Water" encourages introspection, appreciation for the interconnectedness of life, and recognition of our own spiritual essence.

I don't know why, but every time TCC comes out with new stuff I'm always worried that it won't be as good as their old stuff. Then I actually hear their stuff and it blows my freaking mind

I felt the same way about Phoenix and it turned out to be one of my favorite albums (not just from them).

you guys are the only band i know of that doesn't have a single song that I dislike. I discovered Albatross nearly a decade ago and Warrior Poet struck a cord with me and i fell in love with rhat album. in 2008 my daughter was born and The Beginning(a simple seed) told me "if a simple seed gets just what it needs then a redwood tree can grow..." and helped me know that I can raise my daughter to be a strong and successful person. later i was involved with the Kickstartwr foe Pheonix and multiple songs from that album really spoke to me, but my favorite is Beautiful Darkside(helped me to let go of some worries and its such a fun song). I think it was the tour from Pheonix when i saw you live for the first time. i had tweated almost daily requesting that you play Warrior Poet in Dallas, and you did. I've seen you guys 3 times live now and its always a fantastic show. I haven't gotten to sit down and really listed to How to Be Human yet, but skimming through it sounds fantastic. thank you for 10+ years of fantastic music.

The never a bad song band.

Wow, this is the first thing we hear from the new album and it's already obvious how experimental and unique this one will be. Yet, regardless of the different sound, this is still, without a doubt, 100% authentically and distinctly TCC music, and it's terrific. I can't wait to hear the full thing.

Can't wait to listen to this on full blast on vinyl!

Every time I get the chance to hear a song from a new album for the first time from TCC I get nervous. I wonder to myself, "Can the really still be good? I mean they have made album after album and not many bands stay good for so long." Everytime thus far, TCC has blown me away. Their musical ability is incredible. The way they balance keeping a sound that is wholly them with experimenting with new things is something the vast majority of other bands do not seem to be able to do. Their lyrics somehow always manage to be fun, catchy, and profoundly thought provoking and challenging. I do not know how they keep doing it, but I hope they continue for a long, long time.

I cannot wait to see them in Atlanta.

1) Press play. Press play again. Repeat 1000 times.

2) ARE YOU GUYS EVEN CAPABLE OF MAKING BAD MUSIC???

3) I love listening to things that contain the content of this song. I love being reminded that we are all connected. We are all brothers and sisters. Everything you do, everything you see, everything you experience is all interconnected. This is such an amazing world and we are blessed to be a part of it.
