Everybody Knows
The Climb Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We're the same on same old plane.
Dying bats in the evening sun
We're the weirdoes, borrowed
Always made weight in us.
Charmed life's dream brings forth sores
Galling things honey, everybody knows.
Now i know the tragic point:
We're jokes of our childhood days.
Dying bats in the evening sun
We're the stolen, fallen, clinical life forms
And our bodies die.
The lyrics to The Climb's song "Everybody Knows" are open to interpretation but appear to speak to the experience of feeling disconnected and out of place in the world. The opening lines, "Ever bored in an alcoholic space? We're the same on same old plane," suggest a feeling of ennui and conformity, perhaps in a social setting where people are drinking to numb their feelings.
The lines "Dying bats in the evening sun, We're the weirdoes, borrowed Always made weight in us" are particularly evocative. These could be interpreted as a metaphor for feeling like an outsider or an outcast, like a dying bat in the fading light of day. "We're the weirdoes, borrowed" suggests a sense of not truly belonging or being ourselves. "Always made weight in us" could mean that the burdens we carry are always with us, no matter how much we try to escape them.
The chorus, "Charmed life's dream brings forth sores, Galling things honey, everybody knows" seems to suggest that even when living a seemingly charmed life, there are hidden sorrows and painful experiences that are not visible to others. The final verse, "Now I know the tragic point: We're jokes of our childhood days, Dying bats in the evening sun, We're the stolen, fallen, clinical life forms, And our bodies die" speaks to the inevitability of death and the fleeting nature of human existence.
Overall, the lyrics to "Everybody Knows" are poetic and haunting, inviting multiple interpretations and leaving the listener with a sense of introspection and melancholy.
