Falling Awake
The Color Morale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In spite of my cheerful demeanor,
I'm afraid to set foot in the world.
We watch the same dead clocks,
These small hands need to meet the larger again.

I chose a road, the one I didn't know.
Now it has brought me here.
The stories I've gathered in travels,
I wouldn't trade for the years back.

There's a war inside.
I need something to get me through this.
Without you am I ever myself?
The only thing holding us back is us.
The time that won't wait for us,
And ghosts from the last times we died
Are all the same.
We can live again.
All we can do is try and try to try and try to change
For ourselves.

The night has been my covering
And the day is my disguise.
But I can't seem to stay far enough away
From self created lies.

For those of you who question your purpose,
Look inside the eyes staring back at you
Past your devil.
They long for purpose too,
And maybe that's your's,
I know 'cause it's mine.

You are the second hand air that I breathe,
And these songs were made for you to sing before me.
And they are more than just sounds,
And you are more than just an audience.
This is the family that I've found.

I chose a road and now I know
Nothing will ever come easy.

I chose this road.
Staying asleep is worse than falling awake.

Overall Meaning

The Color Morale's song "Falling Awake" speaks to the inner battle that we all face as we navigate through life. The opening lines, "In spite of my cheerful demeanor, I'm afraid to set foot in the world," showcases how even those who appear to be happy and outgoing on the surface, can often be plagued with inner fears and anxieties. The second line of the song, "We watch the same dead clocks, These small hands need to meet the larger again," highlights how time marches on, and we are all trying to find our place within it.

The chorus of the song, "There's a war inside. I need something to get me through this. Without you am I ever myself? The only thing holding us back is us," speaks to the internal struggles and battles that we all face throughout our lives. The lyrics highlight how we often feel lost and unsure of ourselves and how we need others to help us find our way. The verse, "For those of you who question your purpose, Look inside the eyes staring back at you, Past your devil. They long for purpose too, And maybe that's yours," highlights how we are not alone in our struggles and that everyone is searching for meaning and purpose in life.

Ultimately, the song encourages listeners to face their challenges head-on and to push through the difficult times. The lyrics, "This is the family that I've found. I chose a road and now I know Nothing will ever come easy. I chose this road. Staying asleep is worse than falling awake," show that even though life can be challenging, it is better to face these challenges than to remain stuck in a state of paralysis or denial.

I met him back in January in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was the only person who bought a VIP ticket, and he talked to me about hanging on though all my depression. He literally held my hand the whole time as I was in tears. That man saved my life.

Falling Awake

This song and the title of it changed my life, and many others around me...in ways that are indescribable. All I can say is thank you.

Crazy how you commented 8 years ago, but that's exactly how I was too. Well shit I still am, grew up listening to all sorts of music but mostly rap and rock. The Color Morale is amazing, love this band ever since they came out and till this day, I go back from time to time to bump their shit. Timeless music for me

"In spite of my truthful demeanor, I'm afraid to step foot into the world. We watch the same dead clocks. These small hands need to meet the large again." Such moving lyrics, especially for an opening.

Geno Mars

This is the Color Morale that I LOVE. Their style has changed so much these past few years. Know Hope grew on me after a while, but still not as good. Hold On Pain Ends was just pure trash. I'm sorry Garrett. I wish you had stuck with this heavy/melodic style.

TheManRadNone

I bet Hold On Pain Ends was a good album.

@Papa Floga-Chungus woah I wrote that commment 5 years ago lol

Papa Floga-Chungus

@Overlord Audiobooks I've seen them live a few times. Sometimes he's great, others he is mediocre. Never once seen him totally nail it though.

Hold On Pain Ends grew on me, but I've always liked Know Hope, My Devil In Your Eyes, and We All Have Demons.
