evolution
The Commander-In-Chief Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ambition is a fortress
isolated and vain
You don´t welcome any visitors
unless you like to explain
And all the living corpses that are left behind
Is a necessary evil
to become sublime
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
to find out who you really are
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
(welcome to the other side)

In the name of science we can taunt you, destroy you
We can do what we want
We can do what we please
Research knows no mercy

Evolution needs a little push
by the Ivy League
So any human weakness
can be relieved
And every generation
are given new drugs
Improving how you function
our interest is good
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
to find out who you really are
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
(welcome to the other side)

In the name of science we can taunt you, destroy you
We can do what we want
We can do what we please
Research knows no mercy

Research knows no mercy
Research knows no mercy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Commander-In-Chief's song "Evolution" portray a dark view of ambition and scientific progress. The song draws comparisons between ambition and a fortress, highlighting the idea that ambition often leads to isolation and a refusal to accept visitors unless one is willing to explain themselves. The "living corpses" that are left behind in the pursuit of ambition are seen as a necessary evil for one to become sublime. The lyrics suggest that tearing apart one's soul is the only way to find out who they truly are - a process that can be painful but ultimately revealing.

The song also explores the concept of scientific research and progress. The Ivy League is mentioned as a force that pushes forward evolution by relieving human weaknesses with new drugs each generation. The lyrics suggest that the interest of the research is good, but the methods used to achieve progress may not be merciful. The line "research knows no mercy" is repeated multiple times throughout the song, emphasizing this idea.

Overall, the lyrics of "Evolution" call into question the costs of ambition and scientific progress. The song suggests that these pursuits may come at the expense of others and that the means used to achieve these goals may not be ethically sound.

+M47riX1 I don't think like that it's really nothing to do ... for me on the music ... I didn't like

" if u cant play it - dont perform it "

then how do we improve ourselves and how we define ourselves ? ...
I can't force anyone to think like I do to respect in their hard work ... for create something

yes she might get better result by do it like what you said ? ... but she can do it in her way try her best on both ... like many of peoples

how do we judging ? ... if someone come to you said the same even worst one for the song you created .. and perform it they said you can't play it don't perform it ... even you did decent of work ? ... will you stop perform ?

it's like you like to play guitar while singing and you know it's gonna be bad compare to do only one thing at time ... and peoples come complain it

" you should do this do that ... you should stop play them both ... it suck "

and what ??? who said this also musician OMG .... is we really understand each others ?

Yes I know I can't stop peoples from saying that .. but at least ...

I did something ... for her sake for musician sake that is what we all share ... to create arts to this world ...

One of the “Best” videos I’ve run across. This girl has her act together. She is completely “Herself”; She is doing it on Her Terms, She’s absolutely Uniquely Creative, Entertaining, Intriguing & Captivating!

I'll be honest, when it comes to bends like this, I don't even bother listening to the lyrics half the time, but this song is killer!!!! I love it. So many musicians these days are so spineless and just go along with whatever they have to just for some exposure. This is music from the heart. Can't get enough. I hope she's still out there killing it

JulianIsJullar

Damn, she's an awesome singer. This has such an old school vibe to it. I love it

This is pretty cool, never seen anything like that.  I think there should be multiple vocalists and obviously a full band, it would make a huge difference.  Make it sound way more epic etc etc

MetalJesusRocks

Sometimes my favorite music tends to be music I originally thought "WTF?!" ... And this probably qualifies as that.. It's weird, odd and ultimately something original which is cool! Plus that last vocal note - she nailed it!
