Orginally consisting of the duo DeLange and Waylon (who had known each other prior to performing together), they first performed in 2013 for a concert in Enschede. Subsequently, Waylon left the group in June 2014 and was replaced by American country singer Jake Etheridge.
Their song Calm After the Storm reached second place in the final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest (giving The Netherlands their best result since 1975) and was a hit throughout Europe. Released as their first single in March 2014, the song won two Marcel Bezençon Awards. The band's first (eponymous) album, which features Calm After the Storm, was released in May 2014.

Another wasted evening down
Telling yourself is what you need
Till you′re back on your feet
I know those winds, that changed your course
And never blown so hard before
But that was then and this is now
Baby, come on out
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Could you see the sparks are flying
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
Could you feel your heart′s on fire, hearts on fire
No clock is counting down the time
No walls between your heart and mine
It's all been said: emotion, emotion no explosion
These city streets are yours to roam
This glass and steel and stone's your own
It′s all here waiting for you
I′m right here waiting
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Could you see the sparks are flying
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
Could you feel your heart′s on fire
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Could you see the sparks are flying
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
Could you feel your heart′s on fire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Here waiting, waiting, I've been waiting
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
Could you feel your heart′s on fire
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Could you see the sparks are flying
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
"Hearts On Fire" by The Common Linnets is a song about a person who is feeling alone and defeated, but the singer encourages the person to come out and find solace in their relationship. The singer understands that the person has been through tough times that have changed their course, but now is the time to move forward. The person's heart is on fire, and the sparks are flying, which represents the passion and intensity of their emotions. The song encourages the person to embrace the wild and free spirit inside them and not be constrained by the walls or clocks that limit them. It is time to let their emotions out and let their heart burn bright.
The song's emotional intensity is reflected in the repeated chorus lines of "Could you feel your heart's on fire, could you see the sparks are flying, burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free, hearts on fire." The song ultimately delivers a message of hope and encouragement to people who may be struggling with their emotions and invites them to embrace the passion and fire within them.

So there you are, alone and proud
You're standing there confident but isolated
Another wasted evening down
You had a disappointing night again
Telling yourself is what you need
You're convincing yourself that you're fine
Till you're back on your feet
Until you feel stable and secure again
I know those winds, that changed your course
I understand the events that altered your path
And never blown so hard before
And they've never been so intense
But that was then and this is now
But things are different now
Baby, come on out
Come out of your shell and connect with me
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Are you experiencing a strong emotional passion?
Could you see the sparks are flying
Do you notice the excitement and energy?
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
We are living in the moment, unbound and unconstrained
No clock is counting down the time
There's no pressure to rush or meet a deadline
No walls between your heart and mine
There are no barriers preventing us from connecting
It's all been said: emotion, emotion no explosion
We've already expressed our feelings, and there's no need for drama
These city streets are yours to roam
You have the freedom to explore this urban environment
This glass and steel and stone's your own
You can make this city your home
It's all here waiting for you
Everything you need is available
I'm right here waiting
I'm here for you, ready to support you
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Our passion is intense and consuming
Here waiting, waiting, I've been waiting
I'm patiently standing by for you
Burning the night, yeah we are the wild and free
We are pursuing our desires without reservation
Could you feel your heart's on fire
Are you experiencing a strong emotional passion?
Could you see the sparks are flying
Do you notice the excitement and energy?
Hearts on fire, hearts on fire
Our passion is intense and consuming
