The band's music is a mixture of 1960s-style psychedelia and folk-rock with old-fashioned country and modern alternative rock influences. The Coral have released nine albums (The Coral, Magic and Medicine, Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker, The Invisible Invasion, Roots & Echoes, The Singles Collection/Magic & Mysteries, Butterfly House, The Curse of Love, and Distance Inbetween). Their self-titled debut album was nominated for the 2002 Mercury Music Prize and later voted the fourth best album of the year by NME Magazine. It was announced on 9 January 2008 that Bill Ryder-Jones would be leaving, but the band would continue as a 5-piece.

December was the only sound
All the leaves fell to the ground
When you went away
It's a crying shame to see
A kiss become a memory
Now I know just what you mean
Way above, where the north winds blow
We will watch out afar to the valley below
Oh, Jacqueline I know
Oh, Jacqueline I know
A pattern of the ways it seems
That's the way it has to be
Now I know just what you mean
When you say
Way above, where the north winds blow
We will watch out afar to the valley below
Oh, Jacqueline I know
Oh, Jacqueline I know
The coven house where you now go
It stole our love, don't you know
Don't you know?
Oh, Jacqueline don't go
Oh, Jacqueline I know
Oh, Jacqueline don't go
Oh, Jacqueline I know
The Coral's song "Jacqueline" tells the story of a lost love and the struggles of moving on. The song is filled with emotion and melancholy, as it talks about the pain of losing someone and the memories that are left behind. The first verse talks about the departure of the loved one, "You left before the rain came down, December was the only sound, all the leaves fell to the ground when you went away." The lyrics are describing the feelings of loneliness and despair that come after someone leaves, with the imagery of the falling leaves and the quiet December setting the tone for a somber mood.
The chorus is where the song really takes off, with the singer expressing his longing for the lost love. "Way above, where the north winds blow, we will watch out afar to the valley below, oh Jacqueline I know." The singer is speaking to his former lover, saying that he knows she's out there and that he's watching from above. He admits that he misses her and longs for her presence, but understands that their relationship has come to an end.
The second verse of the song continues with the same theme of loss and memory, with the coven house where the lover has now gone acting as a symbol of their separation. The lyrics hint at the fact that something supernatural may have taken place, with the coven house stealing their love. The message of "Jacqueline" is ultimately a melancholy one, focusing on the pain of separation and the difficulty of moving on.

It's a crime that the Coral are so under appreciated.Truly their music is magical...they stand shoulder to shoulder with the very best bands the UK ever produced imho.This,Dreaming of you and Pass it on are as good as it gets.
@andresalvarado3319
Sure. Great band
@misterlister-wm2tj
Give it a rest you're just saying this to get some attention online and act edgy. 'Oh look at me I'm different I'm not going to say the beatles stones oasis radiohead etc like everyone else does I'm going to pick a less popular band and say they are on the level of all the greats' I bet this is the first time you've ever evn heard this song 😄
@thebryman
this was played yesterday at my Nan's funeral. Her name of course was Jacqueline. It was a perfect song for her.
@georgesteven6621

@TheJibbsmcgee
underrated how? by plaing average songs? its not like they were fookin oasis or the verve ? no comparassion. so they ended up where they ended up good little band makes a good little impact nuff said
@25pappy
Everyone says that aboot their favourite band. Liking a band is subjective. My favourite band is Super Furry Animals but I don't expect the general public to agree with me.
@davarjos
@@TheJibbsmcgee oasis are trash..
@oliveraherne5547
@@davarjos Yeah totally crud dude
@Romax-pg2is
I like them too, but “most underrated” is kinda stretching it, especially considering that plenty of their songs became hits.
