Liezah
The Coral Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I had a girl, her name was Liezah, she had only one desire
To walk the cobbled streets alone, heading anywhere but home
With Crowley as her close companion, his diaries went hand in hand with
All the men that she has known, leaves their silver but keeps their gold

So lawyers, doctors please beware
Of that girl with wavy hair
For she will cut you down to size
Reveal the truth behind your disguise

Liezah, just passed by yer
Now you're standing empty handed
Liezah, can't despise her
She'll change your look, she'll have you hooked

The city sleeps as she's arriving, tongue tied and twisted was her timing
Her eyes are glazed in deep despair, those crocodile tears they don't care
Don't turn your back 'cause she'll be gone, chasing shadows in the sun
All along the dusty road, where she goes well we'll never know

And every time I think of Liezah
I break down and I start crying
Although she tore me apart
There's still a place for that girl in my heart

Liezah, just passed by yer
Now you're standing empty handed

Liezah, can't despise her
She'll change your look, she'll have you hooked

Overall Meaning

The Coral's song "Liezah" tells the story of a woman named Liezah who is wild and free-spirited. She walks the streets alone and is accompanied by the writings of Aleister Crowley, a famous occultist. Liezah appears to be quite a complex character, at once alluring and dangerous - someone to be both admired and feared. The lyrics suggest that she may have seduced or betrayed (or perhaps both) some of the men she has known, and that she has the power to see through people and reveal their true selves.

The singer of the song appears to have been intimately involved with Liezah in the past, but has now been left heartbroken and alone. He is haunted by memories of her and can't help but cry when he thinks of her. Despite the pain she has caused him, however, he still has a place for her in his heart.

One interpretation of the song is that it is a cautionary tale about the dangers of giving in to temptation and following one's desires without consideration for the consequences. Liezah is a symbol of the wild and reckless side of human nature, and her story serves as a warning to those who may be tempted to follow in her footsteps.

@@StuartDane WOW, i was sure it wasn't? They didn't even make a video for it.
Maybe it didn't chart either but I thought it was a master class like Pass it On and "Do't Think your the First. " They also released Careless Hands and Bill McKye. So that would have been five singles from the album. Very strange in deed.
