Dreams
The Corrs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should
Play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you madIn the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
And what you had
And what you lost
Yeah, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean
You'll know, you'll know
Now here I go again, I see the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
Well, it's only me
That wants to wrap around your dreams
And have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness
Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
Yeah, what you had
And what you lost
Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing (only when they're playing)Yeah, women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean
You'll know, you'll know, you'll know
You'll know, you'll know, you'll know
Heartbeat drives you mad
Remember what you had
The Corrs's song Dreams is an emotional ballad that speaks of lost love and the bittersweet nostalgia that follows. The opening lines, "Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom. Well, who am I to keep you down?" shows that the singer is acknowledging that their partner wants to leave and they cannot prevent it. The singer is understanding of their partner's desire for freedom, even if it will be hard for them to let go. The lines, "But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness. Like a heartbeat, drives you mad. In the stillness of remembering what you had" highlights the fact that the singer understands the loneliness that their partner will feel, and how difficult it will be for them to move on. This loneliness is compared to a heartbeat that drives them mad, emphasizing the pain that comes with losing someone you love.
The chorus of the song, "Thunder only happens when it's raining. Players only love you when they're playing. Yeah, women they will come and they will go. When the rain washes you clean, you'll know, you'll know" speaks about the transient nature of love. Thunder is often associated with storms and bad weather, highlighting how love can come and go like a storm. The line, "Players only love you when they're playing" references people who only love for their own benefit, to win a game. The singer is warning their partner to be wary of these types of people. The final line, "When the rain washes you clean, you'll know, you'll know" presents a sense of hope that one day they will be able to move on and find love that is true and sincere.

I have been listening to music since I was 11 years old
I am 59
I am very particular
I don’t like everything
Or every song anyone puts out
I’m not always fond of covers
But this is the best cover of this song I have ever heard
And my favorite group is Fleetwood Mac

My mom had their DVD album, and I remember watching this together with my favorites “Runaway” and “Breathless”. I grew up listening to Corrs, Dixie Chicks, and Fleetwood Mac on repeat. Watching this now at 25 brings back a lot of wonderful memories! ❤
