Their line-up has rotated much over the past couple of decades, with husband and wife Lux Interior and Poison Ivy--the lead singer and lead guitarist, respectively--as the only permanent members.
Lux picked up Ivy when he was driving on the highway. Ivy had raised her hand for an auto stop, Lux stopped his car and ...fate brought them together.
They were part of the early CBGB's punk rock movement that had emerged in New York, although they had formed several years earlier in California. The band is credited as a prominent factor in terms of influence on the gothabilly genre.
Their sound was heavily influenced by early rockabilly and proto-rock'n'roll like Link Wray and Hasil Adkins, 1960s surf music acts such as The Ventures, The Surfaris and Dick Dale, 1960s garage rock artists like The Standells, The Gants, The Trashmen, The Green Fuz and The Sonics, as well as the post-glam/early punk scene from which they emerged. They also were influenced to a degree by The Ramones as well as Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who is often credited for having pioneered their style of theatrical horror-blues.
On February 4, 2009, Lux Interior died of a pre-existing heart condition at the age of 62.

New Kind of Kick
The Cramps Lyrics

Don't know what for
I ain't had enough
I learned all I know
By the age of nine
But I could better myself
If I could only find
Some new kind of kick
Some new kind of buzz
I wanna go hog mad
Lookin' and lookin' and lookin'
For something I ain't had before
I'm lookin' and lookin'
I'm lookin' and lookin'
I'm lookin' and lookin'
To find some new kind of kick
To find some new kind of kick
Gimme a kick
Like baby needs mom
Like Susie needs dick
This baby needs
Some new kind of kick
I want some new kind of kick
I want some new kind of kick
I want some new kind of kick
I'm lookin' and lookin' and lookin'
For something I ain't had before
I'm lookin and lookin'
I'm lookin and lookin'
I'm lookin and lookin'
To find some new kind of kick
Life is short filled of stuff
Don't know what for
I ain't had enough
I learned all I know
By the age of nine
But I could better myself
If I could only find
I want some new kind of kick
I want some new kind of kick
I want some new kind of kick
The Cramps's song "New Kind Of Kick" portrays a person's longing for something more exciting in their life. The lyrics suggest that the person is not satisfied with the current state of things and desires a new high or adrenaline rush. The song is written from the perspective of someone who has been around for a long time, having already learned everything they could in life by the age of nine. They emphasize the need for a new kind of "kick" or "buzz" that they have never experienced before. The repeated line "I'm lookin' and lookin' and lookin'" reflects the person's desperation to find this new rush.
The song's lyrics are open to interpretation, but they could also reflect a societal obsession with finding something new and exciting to alleviate the boredom that can come with everyday life. The desire for a "new kind of kick" is a reflection of a person's craving for constant stimulation, and the song captures this in a catchy, upbeat melody.
