Linger
The Cranberries Lyrics
If you, if you could return
Don't let it burn
Don't let it fade
I'm sure I'm not being rude
But it's just your attitude
It's tearing me apart
It's ruining every day
I swore, I swore I would be true
And honey so did you
Is that the way we stand?
Were you lying all the time?
Was it just a game to you?
But I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong, I was wrong
If you, if you could get by
Trying not to lie
Things wouldn't be so confused
And I wouldn't feel so used
But you always really knew
I just want to be with you
And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
And I'm in so deep
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?
You know I'm such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to, do you have to, do you have to let it linger?

This song came out around the time my husband died at 37years old. I would cry and cry when I heard it, still do. The violins are intense, and then she sings like an angel. I think although it evokes such deep sadness for me, it's a mix of his memory and the strength of this piece. They were such a powerful sound in their time and still are. Truly sublime, moving, human.

That is because your late husband still loves you where ever he is . Beautiful song .

So sorry for your loss at such a young age. God be with you and him. When you hear the song just know he is listening with you.

I feel your comment on so many levels. Though I was just a curious teenager when this song came out. It makes me sad as well. Missing her now, and missing those days past . Those days were a little more carefree from where we are now. when I hear her voice, and music I get taken back.. Has sort of a bittersweet emotion to it. Sorry about your husband. Many blessings to you.
Edit: Those violins are so intense, and really deepen the song. One of my all time favorites ❤

Surely this has to go down in history as one of the greatest songs ever. Those violins and Dolores' voice. Sheer perfection.

It's a nice song but I think you mean: "my favorite" as opposed to "the greatest."
