Yellow Skies
The Cranberries Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yellow skies, I can see you in yellow skies
See you again, I see you again
In my dreams, in my dreams
In my dreams, in my dreams

Morning light, I remember morning light
Outside my door, I'll see you no more
In my dreams, in my dreams
In my dreams, in my dreams

Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you
Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you
Responsible, responsible, responsible, responsible

Black and white
It's become so black and white
So insecure, you're so insecure
That's what you are, That's what you are
That's what you are, That's what you are

Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you
Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you
Responsible, responsible, responsible, responsible

Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you

Forever, forever, I'll be forever holding you
Responsible, responsible, responsible, responsible

Overall Meaning

The Cranberries' song Forever Yellow Skies is a haunting track with poetic lyrics that seem to be about death and loss. The song opens with the phrase "Yellow skies, I can see you in yellow skies," which suggests a sense of longing for something that is no longer present or visible. The repeated phrases "In my dreams, in my dreams" throughout the song give the impression that the singer is reliving memories and feeling a sense of nostalgia for a past that can no longer be recaptured.

As the song progresses, the lyrics begin to sound more abstract and metaphorical. The phrase "Black and white, It's become so black and white" suggests a loss of nuance and complexity, perhaps in the singer's emotional life or in their relationships with others. The repeated phrase "That's what you are, That's what you are" has a sense of detachment or resignation, like the singer is coming to terms with some unpleasant truth.

Overall, Forever Yellow Skies is a melancholy song with powerful imagery and a weary, introspective tone. It captures the feeling of someone looking back on their life and trying to make sense of what has passed, while struggling to find meaning in the present.

POV

This is part 3, part two: https://youtu.be/Yam5uK6e-bQ
(Part one is linked in part two)

So I forgot where I left but as I said the rain is like its pouring in buckets and you're running God knows where. This song is playing now. You turn streets, jump on top of cars parked, yelling and screaming this song. No one knows where you are. You laugh at that fact. You pass the bar with the after party, you two can make a better one by yourself. You end up at the park where you used to meet up. You two are alone. Dancing like crazy and screaming this song. You grab some random bikes on the edge of the grass and drive around. Everyone starts to come so you hide behind trees and promise to be best friends forever. Love washes over you. You go down to everybody and dance into the night

So how did you like my povs?

Listening to this in 2021 at age 48 and dancing around like I used to in 1996 when I was 24/25 and had just bought this CD. Still a fantastic album.

I saw them live when this album was fresh, and they started the set off with this song. I was caught off guard at how loud and tight this band was. Perhaps the best concert I've seen.
