didnt really like the pre-set campaigns in either Empire nor Napoleon game. prefer playing Grand Campaign (Long) so you have 100 years to play through, although Napoleon doesn't really have the Long Grand Campaign option.

i know these games have graphical limitations and all but would be awesome if the games featured the following

1. Army supply routes (in addition to trade routes) so you can not only upset the enemy's trade, but also upset the supplies getting to the Army (limiting ammunition for the enemy so that if you have superior numbers of infantry and cavalry, simply throw enough soldiers at the enemy to chew up their ammo and they will have no choice but to use bayonets and melee combat (which would be rather suicidal)
2. Being able to recruit a Forlorn Hope unit to storm the breeches of enemy forts just like the actual era. And the survivors of these units receive promotions
3. Instead of just having the option to retreat and then stop the retreat (which comes in handy in luring the enemy to your strong lines of infantry and cavalry), also have the option to surrender on the field. Would be mad if you could get the enemy to surrender some units and having the option of either capturing these soldiers to strength the army or mercilessly cutting them down while their hands are raised, thus I reckon a notoriety rating would be cool for this feature - certain units become notorious for not giving quarter to surrendering troops and then gain more hostility in future battles
4. Instead of just having only 20 units on the field at any given time and then as the first units retreat units from a second army appear on the field, you should be able to have perhaps two armies on at a time. Especially when you siege a fort and wait for the enemy to attack, you have two sides of a square sort of thing to position your army and more often than not you end up positioning the army in the wrong location (pain in the ass if you have set up defenses since they cant be disassembled) Either two armies at a time or make it you can have more units in a single army (25-30 units would be nice instead of just 20)
5. Victories and defeats abroad have an effect on the population
6. I remember from playing the earlier Cossacks games and both American Conquest games you could recruit peasants, train them into soldiers of different types and then put them in formations of a size of your choice. I'd like that feature but in addition to creating these formations, you could also disassemble these formations after battles and each individual soldier could be looked at for the amount of kills he'd made and all that and each kill was a point of experience (so for an individual soldier with 10 + kills, he was damn experienced, so I could then place these more experienced soldiers into separate units, thus better battle performance and morale - would of liked that in Empire too

Hmm, let me see if I can find the official recommended system specs:

Supported OS: Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista™
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel® Pentium® or greater or AMD® Athlon® equivalent CPU
Memory: 1 GB RAM (XP,) 2 GB RAM (Vista™)
Graphics: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible hardware accelerated video card with shader version 2.0 support, 256 MB video memory
Display: Minimum screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels
Sound: Directx9.0c compatible sound card
Hard Drive: 15 GB free hard disk space formatted as NTFS
Peripherals: Windows compatible mouse and keyboard

So from what you stated, I'm not sure the Intel integrated GPU you have is good enough. They are good enough for general use, but struggle to render anything but the least demanding games, Graphically speaking.

It will maybe run but most likely not very well, I'd recommend getting a dedicated graphic card. Pretty much anything modern will be much better than an integrated Intel graphics solution.

hmm, Napoleon Total war is the only one in the series that I have never played so I can't really compare the two.  But if I can only get one I'd go for Empire over Napoleon.  My favorite of all the Total War series would be Medieval 2 Total War.  The only thing that would make that game better is if it had the bigger map and naval battles of Empire, and better AI.  Sadly all Total War series suffers more or less from bad AI.

I did a quick search and found this that pretty much summarizes what I heard about both.

-Bugs (Half finished on release and I'm being kind)
-Same units for each army mostly
-Same ships for each navy
-Doesn't feel polished (Wonder why)

Napoleon:

+Better AI
+More army differentiation
+Attrition and Supply System
+More, smaller regions
+Better art design (completely subjective, but the 'portraits' in ETW were horrible)
+Physically larger campaign map
+Enhanced GFX engine

-Smaller scope
-Cost high for what is essentially a glorified expansion
-little, if any integration or enhancement with/for its parent game, ETW
-Only 4 nations to choose from in GC
-was developed and released during a time when CA should have been focusing all its energy on repairing and upgrading Empire

I remember watching this series two years ago and how you'd say run when you moved your troops and I just remembered it haha. Oh the memories

I'll keep that in mind, but just so you know this playthrough is already completed so it's basically impossible to change anything on it. I will probably eventually do another playthrough of the Grand Campaign, but I need people to vote on which faction to play. ( that and I'm currently working on a playthrough of Medieval 2: Total War, amongst other games)

So far you have been playing all of my All-Time favourite games. :D

I knew when I first saw that intro that this game would be AWESOME

would of also liked to have started as 13 Colonies and then start a rebellion against Britain and form the United States (instead of playing as US in pre-made campaign)

I loved (!!!) Medieval 2, but with this one...I've heard a lot about bugs etc.  But surely most have been patched by now?
Also my PC specs - not great with this stuff - I have Intel Core i5-4440 @ 3.1Ghz, quad core, and Intel HD Graphics 4600 1Gb : do you think I can run it?  Thanks to anyone who replies!

Aha, thank you for taking the time to reply.  It looks like I'd be best to hold off then, as it is very frustrating to get a game that you can't play.  Kind regards, Glenn
