Their most popular song was "Sixteen Candles" which rose to number 2 on the Billboard charts in 1958.
The 1984 John Hughes teen movie Sixteen Candles took its title from The Crests' song, which was rerecorded by The Stray Cats for the Sixteen Candles soundtrack.
It should be noted that Johnny Maestro went on to form the Brooklyn Bridge who had two number one hits including "The Worst That Could Happen" . His voice got better with age but unfortunately Mastroangelo passed away last year of throat cancer at the age of 65.

How I love you, you are the one
Sweetest one, sweet as can be
Please don't walk
Please don't walk away
I love you, love you, love you
I want you, want you, want you
I love you, love you
Love you, need you
You're sweet as sweet can be
Sweetest one
What have you done
You are so beautiful
Why did you run
Away from me
The underlying theme of The Crests's song Sweetest One is love and the desire to keep it alive. The singer of the song is deeply in love with their partner, who they refer to as the "sweetest one". The chorus of the song repeats the line "Sweetest one, sweetest one, How I love you, you are the one" emphasizing the affection they have for their partner. The singer pleads their partner not to leave them, as they are everything to them. The song reveals the singer's vulnerability and the fear of being abandoned by their loved one.
Moreover, the song also highlights the regret felt by the singer for not being able to hold onto their loved one. They consider their partner to be beautiful and cannot understand why they had to run away. The lyrics imply that the singer did something wrong that led to the significant other leaving. The song ends on an unresolved note, making it unclear whether the plea of the singer was successful or not.
