They are signed to the Wichita Recordings label, and have currently released 5 albums through this imprint - 'The Cribs' (2004), 'The New Fellas' (2005), 'Mens Needs, Womens Needs, Whatever' (2007), 'Ignore The Ignorant' (2009), and 'In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull' (2012).
Despite starting off as an underground band, The Cribs have experienced commercial success with 'Mens Needs, Womens Needs, Whatever' charting at #13 in the UK album charts, and 'Ignore The Ignorant' achieving the band their first Top Ten album, charting at #8. They also have 7 top 40 hit singles to their name, the most successful of which being 'Men's Needs' (#17). In 2008, Q magazine described The Cribs as "The biggest cult band in the UK".
The Chi-Town Songfacts says that The Cribs' fifth studio album, In the Belly of the Brazen Bull, was recorded at London's Abbey Road and Chicago's EAR studio with famed lo-fi rock engineer Steve Albini and Tarbox Road studio in New York with David Fridmann (Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips).
After some hard times during which they were (according to an interview in DIY Magazine) "nearly losing the rights to their entire back catalogue, and coming close to calling time on the group entirely," in 2020 they released the album "Night Network."

Dream dreams where I would die
It's alright, it's alright
They did not come true
Although they will do, in time
It's alright, it's alright
What's the difference? It's all, oh, oh
Like all the parts that I'm not into
But I see in you, oh, oh
Not real brown eyes look into mine
But I was so shy
It's alright
You'll sleep tonight
Dream dreams where I would die
It's alright, it's alright
Fakes, liars and stars of moving pictures
What's the difference? It's all, oh, oh
Like all the parts that I'm not into
But I see in you, oh, oh
Guarded thoughts, firing off
Parting shots, missing lots
Guarded thoughts, firing off
Parting shots, missing lots
Fakes, liars and stars of moving pictures
What's the difference? It's all, oh, oh
Like all the parts that I'm not into
But I see in you, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
The song "Moving Pictures" by The Cribs explores themes of dream, reality, and perception. The opening lyrics "You'll sleep tonight, Dream dreams where I would die, It's alright, it's alright" suggest that the dream images are not a cause for concern or distress, despite the fact that they might feature ideas of death. The next lines, "They did not come true, Although they will do, in time, It's alright, it's alright," indicate that the singer views the dream images as a premonition of the future, and is unfazed by the inevitability of their realization.
The chorus, which repeats the lines "Fakes, liars and stars of moving pictures, What's the difference? It's all, oh, oh, Like all the parts that I'm not into, But I see in you, oh, oh," highlights the difference between the representations of the entertainment industry and the genuine self of the person being observed. The singer acknowledges that they may not be personally interested in the superficial elements of their partner, but still appreciate and see the person as a whole. The final repetition of the lines "Guarded thoughts, firing off, Parting shots, missing lots" implies that the relationship is not perfect and that, like all relationships, it has its challenges.
Overall, the song "Moving Pictures" seems to be about the difference between dream, reality, and perception. The lyrics suggest that although some elements of a relationship may not be personally appealing, appreciation and understanding of the whole person can lead to lasting, meaningful connections.

The album that this is off of is absolutely fantastic. Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand actually produced this album with The Cribs. So much brilliance.
